RATIO REGULATOR INTEGRITY TEST To ensure the regulator diaphragm is not damaged the following annual test is recommended to be completed with the Burner Management System de-energized, the equipment isolation valve closed and the combustion air blower operating: 1. Disconnect the impulse line to the ratio regulator to be tested. 2. Ensure there is flow of combustion air coming out of the impulse piping. 3. Inspect the vent connection on the ratio regulator to ensure it is clean and free of any debris. 4. Using a low-pressure source of air (combustion air source with isolation valve or pocket pump), apply 20 to 28” w.c. pressure to the regulator vent.

5. Isolate the ratio regulator vent connection and watch the pressure gauge. If after 15 seconds, the pressure is still within 1” w.c. of the original pressure, the diaphragm is good. a. If a pressure decay is observed during the 15 seconds, the ratio regulator gas diaphragm may be ruptured. Replace the ratio regulator.

Caution: If an isolation valve is temporarily installed to test the regulator vent connection, it must be removed before the regulator is returned to service.

WARNING: Situations dangerous to personnel and property may exist with the operation and maintenance of any combustion equipment. The presence of fuels, oxidants, hot and cold combustion products, hot surfaces, electrical power in control and ignition circuits, etc., are inherent with any combustion application. Components in combustion systems may exceed 160°F (71°C) surface temperatures and present hot surface contact hazard. Fives North American Combustion, Inc. suggests the use of combustion systems that are in compliance with all Safety Codes, Standards, Regulations and Directives; and care in operation.
