North American TwinBed® II 1444A Compressed Air Solenoid Valve

Installation 1444A

Stainless steel tubing is recommended on the piping to the individual components.

DO NOT attempt to install, operate, or repair these devices without proper training in pneumatic systems and devices. Compressed air systems contain high levels of stored energy. DO NOT attempt to connect, disconnect,or repair this product when the system in under pressure. Always exhaust or drain the pressurefrom a system before performing any service work. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury. The user must conform to all applicable electrical, mechani- cal, piping, and other codes in the installation, operation, or repair of these devices. Please contact Fives North American Combustion, Inc. if there are any questions or concerns regarding the safe installation, operation, repair, or maintenance of this equipment. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE The 1444A Compressed Air Solenoid can be mounted in any position, however, the preferred mounting is horizontal. It should be mounted and positioned in such a manner that it cannot be accidentally operated. Locate the valve as close to the cycle valves as possible, but not where the ambient temperature exceeds 150°F. When piping the compressed air supply to the subplate, take care in routing the pipe so that the compressed air temperature dœs not exceed 150°F. Galvanized or pickled pipe is recommended on the compressed air supply to prevent pipe scale from entering the subplate. Instrument quality air is preferred. An 8645A Compressed Air Filter/Separator is recommended just upstream of the valve.

NOTE: Before installing the valve, all air lines in the system should be blown clean to remove any moisture or loose material. Flexible conduit should be piped to the ½ " female connections on each valve. A lighted indicator is supplied on the solenoid. Disconnect the indicator from the coil and remove the black electrical plug. Using 16 gauge wire, make the proper connections as shown in the wiring diagram. Insert the plug back into the housing and connect it onto the coil. The valves are shipped in the configuration indicated by the part number, i.e. 1444A-03-1 for a 4-way valve and 1444A-03-3 for a 3-way valve. These configurations are field changeable from one style to the other by plugging the appropriate ports. (See Bulletin 1444A for assembly style.)
