OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
Air line lubricants are not recommended for use with this product. Compressor lubricants are often the cause of early valve failure. Since most compressors pass at least a small amount of oil, the oils used must be compatible with Buna-N elastomers. Review the National Fluid Power Association “Recommended Guidelines for the Use of Synthetic Lubricants in Pneumatic Fluid Power Sys- tems” (NFPA/T1.9.2-1978). The solenoid valves should normally be overhauled every two years or one million cycles, whichever comes first. However, they must be visually inspected for leakage around top cover and bottom gasket once a year. High ambient temperatures may cause leakage in the quick release valves. A repair kit including gaskets and seals is available when repairs are needed. (See Recommended Spare Parts 1444A.) NOTE: The solenoid valves may be serviced after shutting off and venting the main air supply. However, it is recom- mended that the valve be removed from its mounting for service. Main air MUST be vented before removing valve from the subplate. DO NOT remove the static base in the solenoid valve. The ceramic slide plates do not require maintenance under normal operating conditions and should not be removed from the valve.
The 1444A Compressed Air Solenoid Valve directs the flow of air using cermaic plates instead of a spool and dynamic seal system. The solenoid coil positions an internal three-way valve, directing the pilot air signal to the appropriate ports in the subplate when the ceramic plates shift. On loss of main air, the spring returns the valve to the de-energized position. The solenoid valves require 120 V ac to operate. They are sup- plied with a lighted conduit connector and manual override. The light is illuminated when the solenoid is energized. The manual override is located next to the coil. To energize the solenoid manually, insert a screwdriver into the screw, push down, and turn clockwise to lock in place. Turn counterclockwise to unlock and de-energize.
CAUTION: DO NOT use the manual override when maintenance is being performed on the downstream component. This may cause injury to personnel.

WARNING: Situations dangerous to personnel and property may exist with the operation and maintenance of any combustion equipment. The presence of fuels, oxidants, hot and cold combustion products, hot surfaces, electrical power in control and ignition circuits, etc., are inherent with any combustion application. Components in combustion systems may exceed 160°F (71°C) surface temperatures and present hot surface contact hazard. Fives North American Combustion, Inc. suggests the use of combustion systems that are in compliance with all Safety Codes, Standards, Regulations and Directives; and care in operation.
