North American TwinBed ® II Repair Instructions for 2-Position Single Solenoid Valve

Repair Instructions 1444A

QRV seat, discard seat and "O" ring and install QRV plug with new "O" ring. The spring return side dœs not require a diaphragm or plug replacement. 9. Firmly, press the cover assemblies into body on both sides. 10. Install new QRV cover insert with the beveled edges downward on solenoid side only. 11. Replace the saddle cover gasket in the orientation it was before disassembly. (See Figure 2.) 12. Replace saddle cover with the solenoid mount on the side marked (14) on the casting and secure with the saddle screws. 13. Insert the new solenoid "O" rings into saddle cover and place the operator onto cover. Secure with solenoid mounting screws.

In 1989/1990, the ceram solenoid valve casting design was changed which affects some of the seals and gaskets. The repair kit includes parts for both old and new styles and for double air piloted solenoid valves, therefore, some of the parts will not be used in the repair of the single solenoid, spring return valves. INTERNAL QUICK RELEASE VALVE (QRV) KIT REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove ceram valve from subplate by loosening the valve mount- ing screws and remove subplate gasket from bottom of valve.(The orientation of the bottom gasket depends on the valve type, internally or externally piloted. Make sure to note the orientation for proper reassembly.) Discard gasket. (See Figure 1.) 2. Remove the solenoid operator by removing the two (2) solenoid mounting screws. Under the solenoid operator body are two (2) "O" rings. (Discard "O" rings. They will be replaced during reassembly of the solenoid valve.) 3. Remove the saddle cover by removing the saddle screws. (Under the saddle cover is the saddle cover gasket. Depending on the type, internal or externally piloted, determines the orientation of the gasket. Note the orientation for proper reassembly.) (See Figure 2.) 4. Insert a small, flat blade screwdriver under the QRV covers and pry upward gently until they disengage from the valve body. (Take care when prying off QRV cover not to gall the casting.) 5. Discard QRV cover, QRV insert, and QRV cover "O" ring on both sides of the valve. 6. Remove the QRV diaphragm or plug and "O" rings from the solenoid side marked (14) on the casting and discard. 7. Lubricate the new QRV cover "O" ring with grease included in kit and install on new QRV cover. 8. The QRV diaphragm or the QRV plug is used when rebuilding the QRV on the solenoid side of the ceram valve depending on the style. If the ceram valve dœs not have a removable QRV seat, install the green diaphragm in place of the gray one. If there is a removable Do not remove the static base in the solenoid valve. The ceramic slide plates do not require maintenance under normal operating conditions and should not be removed from the valve. The solenoid valve may be serviced after shutting off and venting main air supply. However, it is recommended that the valve be removed from its mounting for service. Main air must be vented before removing the valve from the subplate or manifold. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury

RUBBER SEAL KIT REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove the four end cover screws, end cover, and gasket on the solenoid side. Discard gasket. 2. Carefully remove the sleeve and piston as a unit. 3. Push the piston from the insert and remove the U-cup from the piston and "O" ring from body. Discard U-cup and "O" ring. 4. Lubricate the new piston U-cup or piston seal (whichever type was originally in valve) and the new cylinder "O" ring with grease sup- plied in the kit. 5. Place the lubricated piston U-cup with groove side up or piston seal into the piston and the lubricated cylinder "O" ring into the bottom of body cavity. 6. Insert the piston into the sleeve aligning the piston so that the nose is parallel to the sleeve wall. 7. Slide the piston/cylinder assembly into the body cavity, then press on the piston until it comes in contact with the dynamic plate carrier. 8. Install new end cover gasket and place end cover onto valve and secure with the four (4) end cover screws. 9. Place new subplate gasket (whichever type was originally in valve) on bottom of ceram valve in the same orientation as it was before disassembly. (See Figure 1.) Reinstall ceram valve onto subplate by securing valve mounting screws. Tighten valve with 4 foot-pounds torque.

NOTE: Grease may be added to the subplate gasket to hold in place during reassembly.
