Product Overview | 8480A Series

— Plug-In compatibility with most installed systems to improve performance and reduce maintenance — Robust construction for improved life over typical plug-in recuperators Cast HT Alloy heat exchanger delivers superior oxidation resistance and strength when compared to commonly available heat exchangers

The 8480A eliminates premature failure by employing robust high temperature HT30 heat exchange castings assembled with full penetration welds at all connections. The quality of these welds is not taken lightly, employing special preparation and full penetration welding procedures developed specifically for the 8480A series recuperator. This combination of premier quality alloys and procedures assures that the high performance of the 8480A recuperator will continue long after the initial installation. The body of the 8480A is designed to relieve thermally induced stresses eliminating the potential for cracking of the body. Constructed of austenitic stainless steel, the body does not suffer from excessive grain growth and distortion common to many recuperator designs. The 8480A is designed with maximum flexibility in mind. The exhaust connection is configurable in one of three location options (see ordering information). Exhaust piping can be directly connected to the recuperator (expansion compensator required). Optional exhaust adapter flanges are available with either NPT threaded connection, ANSI and DIN compatible flanges. Configurable spool connections are available to extend the exhaust connection to existing flue connections. Standard preheated combustion air and flue gas recirculation crossover connections are available in ½” increments and two configurations. See Sheets 4723LNx-1 and 4723LNx-2 for more information. The recuperator length can be varied in 6” (152 mm) increments to match the application. Customizing the length allows maximizing the available combustion air preheat while preventing robbing useful heat from the furnace due to extending the recuperator past the furnace hot face.

Stainless Steel body designed to minimize thermally induced stresses eliminating stress cracks and body distortion — Unique high efficiency extended fin surface provides superior thermal performance FEATURES OVERVIEW: The 8480A Series Recuperator’s efficient design enables significant fuel savings for conventional radiant tubes. The plug-in design facilitates easy retrofitting of existing installations as well as convenient integration into new systems. The 8480A features thermally-optimized fins to deliver high efficiency while minimizing pressure losses. Located on both the inside and outside of the primary heat exchange surfaces, the staggered fins trip the thermal boundary layer thereby increasing heat transfer. These finned surfaces form the core for the exceptional performance of the 8480. The 8480A is designed to allow users experiencing repeated failures with existing equipment a high performance and robust alternative. A thorough evaluation of several key parameters allows the user to fully understand the benefits associated with the design. A common weakness of conventional plug-in style recuperators is failure of the heat exchanger section. Failure modes include separation of the recuperator end cap and separation of large threaded connections. Excessive combustion air leakage in the recuperator causes the burner to operate “fuel rich”, resulting in post combustion in the recuperator. Subsequent overheating and ultimate failure of the recuperator body then occurs. In many cases, the excessive temperatures will also lead to premature failure of the radiant tube.

Combined, these aforementioned customized features facilitate the installation of the 8480A on most existing applications.
