SFC – Flexible Connectors Bulletin 4.10 August 2009

Fives North American Combustion UK, Ltd.

Braided Flexible FNAC also stocks a wide selection of metal over- braided flexible hoses that can tolerate greater pressures than the SFC (refer to F ives ). These flexible assemblies are suitable for air, oil or gas applications. The braided hoses are manufactured with a stainless steel overbraid. Our standard design consists of a fixed male fitting and one swivel female into which a single mild steel Male/Male cone seat adaptor is fitted. Available Options Sizes range from R 1 / 8 to R2. The following options are available upon request. Please refer to F ives . • Variable lengths and diameters • Stainless Steel Adaptors SFC – Features Eliminates pipe strain and vibration Speeds up pipe fitting installation Compensates for out of line pipe work Compensates for thermal expansion Screwed/flanged or weld-prepared ends Special lengths can be made to order

Flexible Connectors Flexible Connectors have a convoluted bellows construction that is designed to be flexible enough to compensate for misalignment of pipe connections and with thermal expansion of pipelines, particularly when fitted close to a heat source in furnace applications. Additionally, the SFC is an ideal solution to eliminate the vibration that can be transmitted through pipe work to the burners, and their controls, which can have a serious effect on the valve settings and thus affect burner/plant performance. They are gas tight so are suitable for use in gas or air pipelines up to a maximum working pressure of 100 mbar. Easy installation is made by a generous length of end fitting to allow easy grip by pipe wrenches. Available Options F ives Flexible Connectors are available in sizes from R 1 / 2 to R6. The standard connectors are manufactured in stainless steel with mild steel screwed ends. The following options are available upon request. Please refer to FNAC. • Stainless steel ends • Flanged ends • Weld prepared ends • Variable lengths

• Swivel Female Ends • Double Over-braid • Quick Release Couplings Installation Considerations

Hose assemblies must be installed so that all motion/movement is in the bending plane. A metal hose when flexed out of its bending plane will be subjected to torsion/twisting which develops a shear stress that can produce early hose failures. Braided hoses must not be subjected to an axial motion. Extension will result in pre-loading of the braid. Compression will cause braid slack and can result in squirm of the corrugated core. Sharp bends must also be avoided.
