APPLICATION

HiVAM™ burners are a natural for installations requiring a portable burner to heat large volumes of air.

Their high excess air ratio capabilities and lightweight all- metal construction make them ideal for such applications as drying refractory-lined furnaces and vessels, for permanent or temporary mounting on rotary dryers and calciners, and for other jobs where a self-contained portable burner or air heater avoids need for expensive mounting, installation, sealing, etc. For the dual-fuel HiVAM™ burners capable of firing natural gas or light oil, see Bulletin 6570. . OPERATION HiVAM™ Burners must be operated with at least 50% excess air at all firing rates, and are suitable for furnace temperatures up to 1900 °F (1038 °C). They can be used with preheated air up to 500 °F (260 °C). Even though 4570 HiVAM™ burners are gas only, a constant air supply must be maintained through the atomizing air connection to maintain good flame stability. The 4570-9 requires 24"w.c. (60 mbar) air pressure, and the 4570-12 requires 14"w.c. (35 mbar) air pressure. See the engineering data table for more informa- tion. Gas pressure requirements are 13"w.c. (32 mbar) or less for natural gas (0.6 sp gr) at design capacity (50% excess air). See the engineering tables for more details. Main air and fuel can be modulated together using cross-connected fuel regulators; or fuel only control (with constant air) can be used for maximum thermal turndown. IGNITION 4570 Gas Burners are available with either direct spark ignition or spark ignited pilot. For pilot ignition a 4021-16 spark ignited pilot tip is furnished as an integral part of the burner. Customer supplies a 4031 Pilot Mixer, regulator, and shutoff valves. FLAME SUPERVISION 4570 Burners equipped with spark ignited pilot use two UV de- tectors. 4570 Burners equipped with direct spark ignition require only one UV detector. See Sheet 4000-2 for general detail con- cerning direct spark ignition.

Example: 4570-9-EYF burner complete with direct spark, 45° air con- nection and flanged air connection.

"T" 90° Flanged (TF)

"T" 90° Unflanged (TSW)

"Y" 45° Flanged (YF)

"Y" 45° Unflanged (YSW)

ALTERNATIVE BURNER OPTIONS

An alternative to the 4570 HiVAM™ is a 4575 HiRAM® with the optional medium velocity (MV) metal tile. This style 4575 weighs about the same as a 4570 burner and is also free of refractory.

While 4570 burners have some advantages, 4575 burners:

— Are available in more sizes — Have more ignition and flame supervision options — Do not require atomizing air for gas operation. — Are available with 310 or 330 sst (MV or HV) tiles — Can be operated closer to stoichiometric ratio

On a 4570 the pilot and pilot scanner must be interrupted after main flame is established, if equipped.
