OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

The 8663A Manifold assembly uses 5 port/2 position single so- lenoids with metal spring return. (See Bulletin 1444A for specifica- tions and details.) The valves utilize ceramic plates to direct the flow of air instead of a spool and dynamic seal system. They are mounted on a manifold block that is machined to deliver the air to designated ports which in turn supplies pneumatically oper- ated devices. The solenoid valves require 120 V ac to operate. They are supplied with a lighted conduit connector and manual override feature. The light is illuminated when the solenoid is energized. The manual override is located next to the coil. To energize the solenoid manually, insert a screwdriver into the screw, push down, and turn clockwise to lock in place. Turn counterclockwise to unlock and de-energize.

Air line lubricants are not recommended for use with this product. Compressor lubricants are often the cause of early valve failure. Since most compressors will pass at least a small amount of oil, the oils used must be compatible with Buna-N elastomers. Review the National Fluid Power Association “Recommended Guidelines for the Use of Synthetic Lubricants in Pneumatic Fluid Power Sys- tems” (NFPA/T1.9.2-1978). The solenoid valves should normally be overhauled every two years or one million cycles, whichever comes first. However, they must be visually inspected for leakage around top cover and bottom gasket once a year. The high ambient temperatures may cause leakage in the quick release valves inside. A repair kit including gaskets and seals is available when repairs are needed. (See Recommended Spare Parts 8663A.)

CAUTION: DO NOT use the manual override when maintenance is being performed on the downstream component. This may cause injury to personnel.

NOTE: The solenoid valves may be serviced after shutting off and venting the main air sup- ply. However, it is recommended that the valve be removed from its mounting for service. Main air MUST be vented before removing valve from the manifold. DO NOT remove the static base in the solenoid valve. The ceramic slide plates do not require maintenance under normal operating conditions and should not be removed from the valve.

WARNING: Situations dangerous to personnel and property may exist with the operation and maintenance of any combustion equipment. The presence of fuels, oxidants, hot and cold combustion products, hot surfaces, electrical power in control and ignition circuits, etc., are inherent with any combustion application. Components in combustion systems may exceed 160°F (71°C) surface temperatures and present hot surface contact hazard. Fives North American Combustion, Inc. suggests the use of combustion systems that are in compliance with all Safety Codes, Standards, Regulations and Directives; and care in operation.
