8838-E COMBO UV ADAPTER WITH OBSERVATION PORT FOR RADIANT TUBE BURNERS
The 8838-E is a unique adapter that integrates a modified C7035A type UV detector into a “Y” shaped body assembly with an 8790-0 observation port. This allows a single burner port to support flame supervision while retaining the ability of an operator to observe the flame. This arrangement is ideal for 4723 and 4725 radiant tube burn- ers that have only one flame observation port. The 8838-E-UV assembly is threaded into the 4723 or 4725 burner centerline observation port. Since no burner modification is involved, an 8838-E-UV Adapter-Detector can be added to many other burners. The observation port is mounted in the upper leg of body, while the angled lower leg holds the UV detector. A quartz seal- ing lens is included which prevents fuel leaking into the UV cell if mounted to a fuel port. For 4723 and 4725 burners the quartz sealing lens must remain in-place to prevent fuel leakage. The lens is rated for up to 10 psig backpressure. The “Y” fitting can be removed without disturbing the quartz sealing lens in the front of the adapter. During operation, direct spark ignition or gas pilot must be interrupted after normal ignition interval. Pilot air can be left on under all normal operating conditions. If a pilot is used for ignition, the burner flame supervision concept must consider the fact that the UV detector may not pick up the pilot flame. Sequence begins trial for ignition simultaneously with both pilot and main flame.
T o order, specify: 8838-E-UV Flame Adapter-Detector including C7035A-1080 UV Detector, or 8838-E Flame Detector Adapter only. Remove tubular shield and install gasket supplied with C7035A when installing adapter and flame detector.

When replacing a UV detector in the field, modify the C7035A-1080 by removing the tubular shield from the UV tube to allow adequate signal strength. Position the detector tube for maximum grid exposure with upright plates at sides.
