Day 1: Arrive Tokyo Upon arrival at Narita Airport, you will be picked up by your driver for your private transfer to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to explore the city at your leisure. Park Hotel Day 2: Tokyo - Takayama Make your own way to Tokyo station for your train ride to Takayama. You will board the Shinkansen bullet train to Nagoya station in Aichi prefecture, a journey time of under 2 hours. At Nagoya station, you will transfer to the Limited Express train Hida Wideview for one of the most scenic train journeys in Japan, winding your way through tall mountains and stunning gorges to Takayama. Upon arrival, make your own way to your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure. (B) Associa Takayama (2 Nights) Day 3: Takayama Start the day with a guided tour by public transport, visit the local Miyagawa Market along the Miyagawa River in the old town. Stands sell local crafts and farm products such as vegetables, pickles and flowers. Take a walk in the district called San-machiSuji, the traditional home of Takayama merchants and sake brewers, preserved in almost exactly the same state as 2,300 years ago. Visit the Takayama Jinya, the Hida Region around Takayama was put under direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1692. The Takayama Jinya served as the local government office, headed by the officials dispatched from Edo. It was in official use until 1969, and is now open to the public as a museum. End the day by stopping at a sake brewery and enjoy a tasting of Japan’s national tipple. (B) Day 4: Takayama - Shirakawa-go - Kanazawa Visit the Matsuri no Mori Museum with your local guide on public transportation, The magnificent floats from the famous Takayama Festival are preserved here. Afterwards travel by coach with your guide to Shirakawago. The Shirakawa-go and neighbouring Gokayama regions line the Shogawa River Valley in the remote mountains. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1995, they are famous for their traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old. In the afternoon, you will continue onto Kanazawa by coach, upon arrival at Kanazawa bus station, make your own way to your hotel. (B) Kanazawa Sainoniwa (2 nights)

Day 5: Kanazawa Charming Kanazawa is not only home to beautiful art and architecture and to one of Japan’s most exquisite cuisines; it is also the birthplace of refined traditional crafts valued as some of the finest in the country. You will get to experience ‘hands on’ 2 of the crafts that make Kanazawa famous. (B) Day 6: Kanazawa - Yudanaka Make your own way to Nagano station, where you will board the Shinkansen bullet train to Nagano, taking just over one hour. Choose to visit Yudanaka immediately or visit Nagano city, famous for its soba noodles. From Nagano, you will then take a local train to Yudanaka (45mins). That night you will stay in a traditional ryokan located in Yudanaka Onsen, dinner tonight will be a Japanese traditional kaiseki meal, included at your ryokan. (BD) Biyu no Yado (2 nights) Day 7: Yudanaka Day 7 is free to explore by yourself. We recommend heading to Jigokudani Yaen Koen to see the famous Snow Monkeys and perhaps in the afternoon visit the nearby town of Obuse using your included train pass. (BD) Day 8: Yudanaka - Tokyo Make your own way to Nagano station in time for your Shinkansen bullet train ride to Tokyo. The train ride takes around 1.5 hours to reach your destination. Upon arrival, make your own way to your hotel. (B) Park Hotel Day 9: Depart Tokyo You’ll have time at leisure until your private transfer to the airport. (B)
