of God.” Earlier, in Romans 8:9, we are plainly told, “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.” Christ, through His Holy Spirit dwelling in you, makes you a Christian. If we are truly saved then what we need to do is to release the power. We must recognize the peril in fears knowing what such an xieties can do to us. Since God didn’t put them there we can confidently go to Him for the wonderful answers. The Lord gives us the unlimited power if we will only claim it and put it to work. We need to follow Paul’s exhortation to Timothy to “Stir up the gift of God (the Holy Spirit) which is in you.” Release the power which already exists. By faith, let Jesus Christ take over and con trol the difficult situations. REWARD OF G IV IN G On one of Paderewskis early tours of the United States, he performed for a pre-Easter gathering near San Jose, California. The attendance was not good, much to the chagrin of the two enter prising Stanford University students who had guaranteed him a fee of two thousand dollars. Income from the ticket sales came to only $1600.00. They were so embarrassed when they told the famed musician’s secretary that Pad erewski would have to wait until they could make up the difference. To their surprise, the reknown artist informed them they were first to pay for all of their expenses, deduct 20% for them selves as a fee for their efforts and what ever else was left would be enough for him. This generosity so impressed the college boys that they vowed they would someday, somehow, make it up to him. A number of years later, when Pad erewski’s beloved Poland was desperate ly in need, one of those students, Her bert Hoover, was instrumental in in stituting a large relief program. As a result, thousands of people in Poland were saved from starvation. That was quite a return on the musician’s kind ness. Too often is the fact forgotten that there is more power in the opened hand than in the clenched fist. From the wis dom of Proverbs we read, “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty” (Prov. 11:2U).
THE TRUTH ABOUT LADY GOD IVA A familiar account from history con cerns Lady Godiva who supposedly rode without clothing th ro u g h her city’s streets on the back of a white horse. The entire story, some historians tell us, was through evil gossip. Lady Godiva was a wealthy woman who lived during the middle ages when those with money were usually oppressive and unpopular. While they lived like kings their ser vants and those who worked the land ate scraps and wore rags. Lady Godiva, however, saw to it that people ip her domain received proper care. Because of this she was given love and loyalty in return. This Christian kindness infuri ated the selfish ones about her. Some of them set out to ruin her good name. One story they would tell was that she had given away all of her clothes in protest against the government. I t wasn’t long before the rumor spread and people talked and laughed about her supposed ride. I t is a part of human nature that people would rather repeat an evil story than they would hear a true one. The warped mind erroneously believes that by tearing down someone else he has automatically built up himself, however, it never works that way. The Word of God tells us to “rejoice not in iniquity,” but rather to “rejoice in the truth.”
