Biola Broadcaster - 1966-08

Q. Yakima, Wash. — “Joseph was one of Jacob’s 12 sons, and yet his sons are listed in the tribes of Israel in stead of him. Why is this?” A. There is a very interesting and wonderful reason. When Joseph was only 17 his conniving brothers sold him into slavery. Jacob considered him dead. He was heart-broken. The Lord made up those long years of tragedy by allowing Jacob to go down to visit his beloved son and new grandchildren. While h is blessings upon his children are listed in Gene sis 49, the chapter before this finds Joseph bringing in his boys to his father. Seeing Ephriam and Manas- seh Jacob praised the Lord for allow ing him to find Joseph, as well as two new grandsons. Here, he symbolically adopts the two for his own. So the Lord blesses us as we have been adopted into the family of God. Q. Phoenix, Arix. — “Did Moses die or was he taken up as Enoch was?” A. Scripture is very clear on this as we see Gen. 5:23, 24. Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him. He was translated. In Deut. 34:5-7, however, we see that Moses actually died and was given a funeral by the Lord Himself. We do not know where Moses is buried.

tist school?” A. While we have many students from Baptist churches across the land, Biola’s schools are entirely interde nominational. We have, as a matter of fact, about 25 different denomina tions represented in our student body, as well as on the faculty and staff. Q. Yakima, Wash. — “I have felt that we were to call no man ‘father.’ Is there another proper title for address ing a priest, or am I being too lit eral?” A. Let us understand in what sense the Lord spoke these words. To take it in the absolute we would have diffi culty with Exodus 20 where we are told to honor father and mother. Our physical father certainly has the right to have respect and honor. The desig nation of the priest is not in the sense of anything more than a title like “Mr.,” “Prof.,” “Dr.” and the like. Titles are a form of courtesy and should not represent any spiritual sig nificance. There are some liberal min isters with whom we would not agree theologically, however, we would still refer to them as “Rev.” No man on earth, however, is to be used as our final, spiritual authority. God alone is due this devotion and worship.
