cording to Romans 5 we sin because we are sinners, and unless we find the Saviour we shall sin, and sin, and sin, until we pass on to a sinner’s grave and a sinner’s eter nity.” Look at that tree: is it an apple tree because it bears apples? or does it bear apples because it is an apple tree? Surely it bears apples because it is an apple tree. Indeed if it bore no apples it would still l-e an apple tree. . . . There is no escaping it; we are' sinners by birth and die in conse quence. We sinned in our common ances tor, but being found in Christ, we are graced in Him.— G eorge G oodman . JUNE 8 Less o f Self “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). Two Christians were visiting mission stations in China. From time to time one of these men asked the Chinese converts what, in their opinion, was the greatest bar rier to the spread of Christianity in China. Almost invariably the answer that came back was, “ Ourselves.” These Chinese Christians saw true. Are we as severe with ourselves as they were with them selves? Are we ready to let Christ do away with the last vestige of barrier that we are offering to that proclamation of His love which He wants to make through us to others?— Christian Age. “ Casting all your care upon him” (1 Pet. 5:7). “ Cast not away therefore your con fidence” (Heb. 10:35). It is God’s will that I should cast All care on Him each day; He also bids me not to cast My confidence away. My soul, what folly then is thine When taken unawares, To cast away thy confidence, And carry all thy cares. —Philippine Evangelist. JUNE 10 For God Alone “ But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly” (Matt. 6:6). “ Shut thy door” is part of Christ’s in structions concerning private prayer. The world shut out, and the saint shut in, alone with God ! The secret communion of the closet prayer is not for the curious eye and ear of the outside world. Therefore, this phase of prayer must be experimental ly learned by each individual who would know the mysteries of intimate fellowship with God. When the door actually closes to the world, the windows open toward heaven. . . . The discords of earth are hushed in the harmonies of heaven. — The, Gospel Message. JUNE 11 Satan’s Unfulfilled Promises “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him” (John 8 :44). JUNE 9 Casting

is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me” ( 1 Cor. 11:25). What is it that makes Jesus our divine Saviour? Is it not the pierced hands, the riven side? It is when we see the print of the nail, the wound of the spear, that, like Thomas, we fall on our knees and cry, “My Lord, and my G od!” What wonder, then, that our Lord has specially enjoined us to remember His death ! It is from the pierced side of Incarnate Deity that there has flowed into our world the cleansing, healing, recreating water of eternal life.— Christian Herald and Signs of the Times. JUNE 6 Watching One Hour " And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” (Matt. 26:40). M y friends, in comparison with eternity, the life of watchfulness and prayer to which Christ calls us is as brief as a watch in the night. Shall we deem it too much to live life’s brief hour in vital watchful ness and fellowship with the Christ of God ? Should we not all reply with one voice: “ Yes, blessed Lord, we will watch with Thee life’s brief hour. Here and now we will arise and trim our lamps and go forth and maintain sleepless vigilance until the cry is heard, ‘Behold the bridegroom cometh !’ ”-f-M . M . M c D onald . JUNE 7 Inherent Sin, Infinite Grace “Moreover the law entered, that the of fense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Rom. 5:20). A boy once asked me the question, “ Do we sin because we are sinners, or are we sinners because we sin ?” I replied, “Ac-

LETTER FROM DR . ROR JONES The Internationally Known Evangelist and Founder and President o f the BOB JONES COLLEGE LOCATED AT CLEVELANB, TENNESSEE Dear Friends: “I came to the Bob Jones. College an atheist. I have found God, and I am going to be a preacher of the Gospel.” “ Since coming to this College I have received the assurance of salvation.” “ Since coming to this College I have accepted Christ as my personal Savior.” These statements were made by students of the Bob Jones College. The Bob Jones College believes in putting first things first. The modern ists say that the young people do not want “the old time religion.” The modernists are wrong. They do not want the young people to have “the old time religion.” The Bob Jones College is demonstrating that old time evangelical orthodoxy “works” in an educational institution with as high educational standards as any college or university in the United States. . Remember, our College gives Piano, Pipe Organ, Violin, Voice and Speech without additional cost. In connection with the college we have a secretarial course which a student may complete in one year, and while taking this course the student may take Music and Speech in the college of liberal arts.
