JUNE 22 In His Name “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it” (John 14:14). Is not our union with Christ one reason that we may expect our prayer to be heard? Prayer is answered because of our identi fication with Him. This is our privilege “in Christ.” But may this not also suggest why some of our prayers are not answered? We say “ in His name,” but we say it un thinkingly. We are not abiding in Him at the time. . . . Shall we Viot try to obey the command to abide in Him more consistent ly so that We may say “in His name” more sincerely in our prayers? — W a lter C. E r d m a n . Both the journeying and the tarrying were guidance from the Lord, the one as much as the other. We, when hindered or stayed from moving forward, are prone to think that we are having no guidance. In fact, no guidance forward may be guid ance of the most real sort. It is simply guidance to wait. Waiting, with the cloud, is true and blessed guidance. Going ahead without it, is simply human willfulness. — J. H. M c C onkey .* It puzzles me; but Lord, Thou under- standest, And will one day explain this crooked thing. Meanwhile, I know that it has worked for blessing. Its very crookedness taught me to cling. — S elected .* JUNE 23 True Guidance “ A t the commandment of the Lord they rested . . . and at the commandment of the Lord they journeyed” (Num. 9:23). “I f .we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Do not let us think for one moment that we can live a sanctified life apart from the constant cleansing of the blood of Jesus Christ. We need daily confession and daily cleansing. . . . Let us keep in our -minds, as we think of the possibilities of sanctification, and as we rejoice in the truth that we are risen with Christ, the equally important truth that we need constant cleansing. — A - S t . J ohn T horpe . JUNE 25 God’s Promise “ I do set my bow in the cloud" (Gen. 9:13). The cloud that seemed so dull and gray Is ladened, bringing answered prayer; Henceforth “ be not dismayed” nor fear; Faith sees the “ substance” all the way. The cloud has been to thee God’s test, And will disperse as on you go; The rainbow’s in the cloud; look up, And see God work for you His best. — N ellie A . JUNE 26 Believing and Trusting

MAY “ PROPHECY”

“ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understand ing” (Prov. 3:5). What does it mean to believe ? It is a big thing; it means to trust Christ: it means to give up relying on ourselves and to reckon only and solely on Him. It means to surrender, I cannot trust a per son if there is a rebellion in my heart against that person. There must be perfect confidence in our Lord’s leadership and a whole-hearted submission to His commands. — A . L indsay G legg . JUNE 27 His Death, Our Peace “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor. 15:3).

Is it strange, then, that the P-S-B Training Course should result in so many consecrated young men and women gradu ates entering full-time Christian Service? The Class of 1921, shown above, is no exception. Here are twenty-two young people. All but one — and he for years a successful Sunday School teacher — have entered active Christian work.
