326 ■ the book thus collected and foisted upon a deceived people is His Inspired Word, shifts the responsibility from man to God Himself, and is worse than blasphemy. When some one told a Ger man critic ,that scholars in America ac cepted his conclusions while they be lieved in the Bible as the Word of God, he replied, ‘‘I certainly did not intend to make God Almighty a party to the fraud.” ■ And it is not uncharitable to charge th a t the ethics of the higher criticism which contends or even admits, th a t the Pentateuch was not written by Moses, but that his name was signed to it to give 'it authority, encourages fraud and dishonesty wherever it is taught and believed. It is a myth which is a moth eating away the texture of moral char acter. May God help us to “cast down imagination and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,” believing in our h e a rt of hearts th a t “all Scripture is given by inspira tion of God, and is profitable for doc trine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thorough ly furnished unto all good works.” DR. OLIVER’S WORK We regret th a t the report of Dr. French Oliver’s work reached us too late for this issue. Dr. Oliver, one of the Institute Evangelists, has been hav ing a most remarkable work a t Tyrone, Pa. This will be reported in our next issue.
THE K I N G ’S BUS I NES S EMPTY SEPULCHRES |UST as the first- ripe ears of corn which grew on the plains and the mountain-sides of Palestine were immediately brought into 'the temple, and waved before the Lord, as a pledge th a t every ear of corn standing and growing in Palestine should be safely reaped and gathered in; so the resurrection of Christ is a demonstration th a t we His people shall be raised again. If we sleep in Jesus, God will bring us with Him; because He lives, we shall live also. Dry up your tears, then. Sometimes you go to the churchyard; sometimes you attend the remains of your relatives to -their long homes, you go to “the house appointed for all living” ; and sometimes you see the bones lying- round th e grave, and you are tempted to take them up, and ask, “Can these bones live? Can these dishonored, dishevelled, denuded bones live?” Can the dead live again? “Come see the place where the Lord*lay.” As surely as the sepulchre of Christ be came an empty sepulchre, so surely the sepulchres of His people shall become empty sepulchres also; as surely as He got up, and sung a jubilee of life and immortality, so surely shall His people come out of the grave. How beauti fully has the prophet Isaiah expressed it! “Awake and sing, ye th a t dwell in dust; for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Thy dead men shall live; togeth r with my dead body shall they arise." —Dr. Beaumont.
