In a few days he secured a fairly good position in one of our large dry goods stores where he was perfectly con tented. Going After Another One One day on returning from business he ran into an old chum from' the home town. This man was about to be turned out of the house in which he was living because he possessed two little children. He. was without work and depressed. Our friend of the fifty-eight cents linked his arm in his and brought him to Biola Hall. We had just finished an outdoor meeting and had six needy men in our net with whom we were dealing. Wait ing until we were at leisure, he intro duced his friend, and asked us to tell him how he cofild find peace for his troubled soul; he.had done the best he could to explain the way of salvation to his friend who was interested and wanted further light. There was no antagonism to encounter; just a heart open to receive God’s Son, and within a very short time we were all three kneeling in our little room and the great transaction was done. “And a ll through thq. mountain thunder riven, And up from the rocky steep, There arose a glad cry to the gates of heaven, Rejoice, I have found my sheep. And the angels echoed around the throne, Rejoice for the Lord brings back His own.” A Striking Case Another striking case was when one of our boys asked us to mail a New Testament to an inquirer. Discover ing we were entirely out of them, we substituted a copy of John and were much chagrined when the following morning a man stepped into Biola Hall and handed us a small package, stating it belonged here. It was the copy of John with a note stating he had ex pected his request would be ignored but just wanted to test us and as he al ready, possessed a copy of John’s Gospel, he returned this. Well, we didn’t spend much time praying over the reply to th a t note, and “answered him accord ing to his folly,” assuring him he al ready possessed enough tru th in one verse of the Gospel, (John 3:16), to save every man, woman and child who would believe it in the world. Hastily mailing it we then wondered whether we might not have been more gracious
in replying to a perishing soul. The following noon the man came in to our noon day prayer meeting. We looked for trouble but he went out a t «the close. Ten minutes later he was back, and introducing himself, began open ing his heart and $aid as far as his head was concerned things seemed clear to him, as he had often heard us speak from the chart on the way of salvation, but something was wrong with his heart. Would we please pray for him? We soon discovered he was looking for ex perience and to feel peace in his heart. When from the Word we showed him, “that believing was feeling” and brought him right up to the written Word, his doubts and perplexities soon fled before Scripture and a more clear, definite ac ceptance of God’s Word for his assur ance and the atoning blood of Christ as the ground of belief we have rarely seen. Later, in giving him an oppor tunity to confess the Lord Jesus accord in g to Romans 10:9, his audience asked him if he didn’t experience great peace, he replied, “My feelings haven’t changed a particle but I ’m resting my soul’s salvation on Christ’s atoning blood and His unalterable Word as my assurance.” The following day there certainly was a settled peace in heart and face as he came in inquiring how he could get victory over a tobacco habit which had gripped him for years. He said, “I want every action of my life to speak now for Jesus and I know this tobacco habit doesn’t.” Proofs of a Real Work , The following day in tramping the city looking for work, a lady in front of him dropped a big fat pocket book. For a brief moment he was for keeping it, but God gave the victory, and al though the owner didn’t as much as thank him, he felt the joy leap in his heart and praised God that the incident had happened. It doesn’t take long when the soul yields to Christ for the Spirit to begin cleaning up the temple of God. Praise His. blessed Name, the Gospel is still the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth as we are daily proving at Biola Hall.
