THE K I N G ’S BUS I NES S manifestly upon the preaching of the Word.- Scores of men are now off on their ships in possession of a definite message and some with a new experi ence in their lives. They are on their way, many of them, to heathen homes in countries across the seas and need our prayer. During the month the Lord answered prayer in regard to a suitable boat which is very much needed here, as the harbor stretching out for a long dis tance, makes it necessary for th e worker to walk miles every day, thereby losing very much time. With students to train no way would be open to reach ships not coming to the wharf. A suitable hull was almost given to us by the Naval Authorities in Washington and a dear servant of the Lord made it pos sible to have a new marine engine in stalled, giving us a good outfit to reach many men with this Gospel boat which will be equipped with all necessary mu sical instruments and the Scripture in all available languages. Patient Personal Work While going along the water front to reach a ship at a certain pier another ship was noticed, having arrived in the night two days before. While board ing the vessel, the watchman was asked if he had seen Mr. Goyette (in charge a t San Francisco). He said he had and told of an occurrence th a t lie had wit nessed on board another vessel. Mr. Goyette was speaking to a man on board who flared up and got mad, not wanting to take a Testament offered him. “But,” said this watchman, “you ought to have seen the way this man, your friend, talked to this man. He did not get mad but answered him from the Bible and was so kind to him and so patient that he could not help but listen. He got him interested and they talked for a long time together until the man actually was won over for Christ in my presence. I never saw such a thing in all my life. Why, this man was a Catholic and was very mad, b u t the way this friend of yours hung on to him and spoke to him, was fine. He met every objection. And I tell you what happened the next day while 3 was still on watch (these watchmen do not belong to the ship but are resi dents of the city and employed by a detective agency). The Catholic fellow •came to me and said he read the Testa ment until after midnight and will never be thankful enough th a t this man had so much patience with him.” Then

came out another part in the way God was dealing with this soul. The watch man continued: “This man then told me that he went to confession not long ago but when the priest was told that he had not been to confession for some time and was also behind in the cash he (the priest) became very angry and gave him a terrible raking over the coals. Then when your friend spoke so patiently and explained all about confession to God only, he saw the d i t ' ference, and, he says, ‘that was the last time I went to the priest /and to the Catholic church’.” This testimony coming from another, a mere witness, rejoiced our hearts. The Printed Page Witnesses Lately many men have been met on certain steamers who had been brought up in Christian homes and are trusting that their childhood surroundings will speak for them before God and justify them. It is wonderful what a single message on assurance will do in such cases to bring conviction and then lead -to a definite acceptance of the Lord. A certain steamer of the Union Oil Co.’s Fleet was boarded and the F irst Engineer almost at once upon entering the cabin and looking at the Moody book offered him, pulled out a book, “Calvary’s Cross” , and said he found th a t book when he entered the service of the ship some time ago, had read it and was greatly impressed. He was a believer but lacked assurance. His case was different from those mentioned above in th a t he was really a Christian. This man thought he had crucified the Lord afresh and was miserable and de spondent until, from the Word, he saw that he could enjoy a full and free assurance. Another Led to Christ The Panama Canal, opened shortly before the war, is now really becoming a large factor in the commerce of the nation. The other day the twenty-third steamship line was announced in the East Coast-Panama-Pacific^k-vice and the ship arriving that cert^K day had only recently been added to th a t ser vice. Going from cabin to cabin two men were found enjoying a piece on a phonograph. There was no especially good opening and yet the one man the worker met was one he was specially drawn to and felt led to speak to, espe cially as he spoke of the help he got from a book of ours he read while in this port the last time. But what could
