from the king’s table. Among the young men chosen were Daniel and his three friends. It was very rich food th a t came from the king’s table, not the best kind of food for young people. Besides, some of it had been offered to idols first, for this was a heathen coun try. There was wine, too. Daniel did not eat and drink such things when a t home. Now, no one would know, but Daniel made up his mind he would do right away from home, just as he did when a t home. He purposed in his heart, th a t he would not touch the rich food, nor the wine, not a drop. £)aniel’s friends took their stand with him. Daniel was going to take care of the body God gave him. He was a temper ance boy. (Tell the rest of this fascin ating story emphasizing the courage it would require on Daniel’s part to take his stand for the right, and th a t the courage was there because th a t from a boy he had given his heart to God.) Daniel was not going to do anything th a t would injure his body in any way, for th a t would not be pleasing to God. Our memory verse tells us ju st what Daniel did. “Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” That means th a t if we love Jesus we will never do any thing that will not please Him, and if we please Him, that will be a glory to God. The downward path may sta rt with such an apparently small thing as bad company, but is liable to end in a criminal’s grave. Conclusion. To run the race suc cessfully we must keep looking a t Jesus.. THE SUPREME SURRENDER Jesus expects, our supreme love. We have heard even ministers pleading: “Give J-esus ju st a little of your love, ju st a little corner of your heart.” But Jesus does not ask for only a little of our love or a corner of our hearts, nor could He receive them if they were offered. He placed everything that was dear to Peter on the one side and Himself on the other, and said: “Si mon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?” He did the same for Abraham, for Moses, for the rich young ruler, and for Saul of Tarsus. In fact, He does this for all who come to Him. Of all He asks: “Lovest thou me more than these?” And He adds: “He th a t loveth father or mother move than me is not worthy of me;' and he th a t loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he th a t tak- eth not his cross and followeth after me is not worthy of me.” Have you stood the supreme test? Have you made the supreme surrender?—Lingle.
