THE K I N G ’S BUS I NES S “Fighting the Desert; th a t has been my work, I’ve been lighting the desert all my life, and I have won. I have put water where there was no water, and beef where there was no beef. I have put fences where there were no fences and roads where there were no roads. Nothing can undo what I have done and millions will' be happier for it after I am dead and forgotten.” Fight the desert in your life and In men’s lives. It is a splendid battle. The nobler the work, the better ; but all honorable and honest toil may be a calling in which we “abide with God.” Baruch “earnestly repaired the piece” of the wall; he put his earnest ness into the work of a mason. Memory Verse«—iiven a child mak- eth himself known by his doings. Prov. 2 0 : 11 . Approach.-—Who would like to be a soldier? Show me how a soldier stands, how he salutes, how he holds his gun when marching and firing. It would be splendid to be a real BEGINNERS soldier, I think. A AND PRIMARY good soldier must Mabel L. Merrill be brave, and al ways ready to do his duty in the face of danger. Do you boys and girls think Daniel and his three friends would have been good soldiers? Yes, indeed, they would, for they were brave and courageous, and would always do the right. Some of us remember ju st a while ago during the awful war, our country needed soldiers? and how many of our fine young men

: 371 volunteered to be soldiers. Some of our fathers and brothers were soldiers. Then there were some young men in our country who did not want to be a soldier and serve their country. We are not proud of these men who tried to hide and get away so they could not be made a soldier. What do we csill these men? Slackers. While it was hard for 'us to see our soldiers march away to war, yet we were proud of them, but.we are ashamed of those who were slackers, and failed our country when they were needed. You know there are slackers now, who will not do their part of the work. We some times call them lazy. You know there are some boys and girls who are slack ers a t home, and slackers a t school. But I am so glad th a t most of the boys and girls are good soldiers and are ready to do their part wherever they may be, whether a t home or away from home. They are brave and true like Daniel. Prayer. Lesson Story.—Last week we had a story about four boys who were brave and stood for the right, and today we are to hear about a little girl who was brave and did her part. We see that children can help in so many ways, and especially in the home. Our story hap pened in a country whose king was a very wicked man, and who treated God’s people Israel very cruelly. This king made a wicked law for the murder of all the little boy babies of the people of Israel. Ju st after the king made this law, there was the dearest little boy born in one of the homes of God’s peo ple. He was a beautiful, strong baby, and the parents loved him dearly. They made up their minds th a t the king should not take him from them, and they prayed to God to help them keep him safe. They hid him in the home for a while, but soon he grew so big and strong, and his cry grew louder, end his mother was afraid someone would hear him and tell the king. So
