have all the talk, wheresoever they come, like parrots. Second, they con demn others, like the Pharisees. Third ly, they spurn them which tell them of their fault, like Abner. Fourthly, they jump with Caesar, like the Herod- ians. Fifthly, they turn with the time, like Demas. Sixthly, they seek their own credit by the discredit of others, like the enemies of Paul. Seventhly, they love to have their own praise, like Herod. Eightly, above all things they would have their own will, like Jezebel. Whensoever these eight marks meet, there is a wise man and a fool.”-—Henry Smith. ¿¡fe The Boy Jesus With th e Teachers. Luke 2:40-52. Memory Verse.— “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.” Psalm 32:8. Approach.—Back in the part of the country where it is very cold, when everything was frozen, there was one little stream of water running still. Some one said to BEGINNERS the little stream, AND PRIMARY “Little stream, why Mabel L. Merrill are you not froz en?” The reply was, “I am too busy to be frozen. I must trickle on.’’^ P ra c tic a l Commen tary S. S. Lessons. Lesson Story.—When Jesus was a boy he lived in a beautiful country, very much like our own beautiful California. There were beautiful trees, palms and bright colored flowers of all kinds. The houses in which people lived w ere'little square houses with flat roofs, and many of them were covered with vines and flowers. Mary was the name of Jesus’ mother, and Joseph was Mary’s husband. Joseph was a carpenter and worked dur ing the day with his saw and hammer. And what do you suppose Jesus did all day? He went to school with the other boys, and played games with them, and he often climbed with them to the top of the green hill, on which the town was

Milton said, ‘Education is th a t which fits a man to perform justly, skilfully and magnanimously all the offices, public and private, in church and state’.” Bible Illustration.—Acts 17:15-21 proves that the education received in the state schools is not the means .used for the saving of souls. Most often when great learning flourished, idolatry and unbelief abounded. Moses was not fitted by the education received in the Universities of Egypt to do the work of God—he was trained 40 years by God in the back of the desert. ' There is a knowledge of the head gained from books,>but' there is a deeper knowledge of the heart received from the Word of God applied by the Spirit of God in the every day experiences of life. A great preacher said, “ If I could send my boy four years to the.University or give him four years in systematic whole some Bible study—I believe he would come out of the four years Bible study, better fitted to meet life’s problems, than from the University without the Bible.” Education versus Brains.—A mother took her boy to the School building and upon meeting the Principal of the School said, “Here is my boy, he wants to come to your school and I hope you will put some brains into him.” The Professor said quietly, “Madam that is not our business—we are here to train what brains he has and not to impart brains.” “ If wisdom’s ways you wisely seek, Five things observe with care; Of whom you speak, to whom you speak, And how, and when, and where.” Golden Text Illustration. — Watson says, “Wisdom consists chiefly in three things—Knowledge to discern. 2— Skill to judge. 3—Activity to prose cute.” “If you would know such as are wise above sobriety you -.shall dis cern them by these marks:—First, they
