Chinese Diamonds In a new book of missionary stories Mrs: Jonathan Goforth gives some of the interesting facts known to her in the long journeys through China. These sketches were written .primarily, to an swer the questions, “Do missions pay?” and “After all, are there any real Chris- tions in China?” The presentation is in most readable form and the facts narrated are of undoubted value. That God’s Word has not lost its power to lift out of the depths of sin is here clearly seen. The concrete examples of men cleansed, restored and estab lished in righteousness evidence as nothing else can the tru th of the Bible. We are indebted to Mrs. Goforth for a series of instances as convincing as any told by Harold Begbie in “Twice Born Men.” These are not the outcome of generations of Christian development, for China has no long Christian history. They are miracles of grace. Here we see the power and grace of Divine love to the most needy and also the possibil ities of a life th a t is receptive of Di vine help. (Price $1.) Feathers with Yellow Gold This book by Mrs. Eva Rose York was written to tell the story of Redemp tion House, a home for fallen girls, and it forms a most interesting record of a noble work. But it will serve another and more valuable service to the Chris tian Church in answering in a most em phatic way tie question, “Does God hear prayer?” Mrs. York was led to start upon her work with one dollar, a, few sticks of furniture, and the abundant promises of God, in which she had a childlike tru st and confidence. That “My God shall supply all your need” has been her hourly dependence, and though a t times God severely tested her faith, it was an almost daily experi ence to have her prayer for soap, or bread, or some other “ commonplace” need answered while yet she was upon her knees in prayer for that very ar ticle. That such implicit faith and such immediate response should be a matter for remark is in itself much to be re gretted, yet so it is. (Price $1.)
