M BERTY IN LIFE Jesus Christ not only called Lazarus into life, but He. commanded the grave- clothes to be taken off him, th a t he might have liberty in life. Life, with out liberty from the grave-clothes, would scarcely have been a blessing.. So Jesus Christ not only gives life to the soul which believes in Him; He also commands the Spirit to descend upon him, to set him free from all enslaving habits. “If the Son make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” NOT A BAD TRAIT A woman who wajs punctual and early a t public worship was asked how she could always come so early. She answered, “ It is a part of my religion not to disturb the religion of others.’’* ^-Griffith Thomas*^

SELFISHNESS IN PRAYER “God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you" (l,S am . 12 :23 ).. Perhaps we are not accustomed ibo think of praying for others as a duty, the omission of which is a sin against God. We think of it as a privilege, but scarcely as part of loye’s solemn duty. We are in danger of narrowing our prayers to ourselves and our own wants. We think of our own sorrows and trials, our own duties, our own work, our own spiritual growth, and too often do not look out of the win dow upon our friend’s rough path or sore struggle. But selfishness in pray ing is one of the worst forms of selfish ness. If ever love reaches its best and purest, it ought to be when we are standing before God. We do not know how much the blessing and saving of others depends upon our praying for .them. We do not know how often men’s failures, defeats, and- falls are due to our having ceased to pray for them. We stand between God and needy lives, and a re bidden to give ourselves no rest, bu.t to cry continu ally to Him for those about us. The healing of the world is in our inter cessory prayer.—J. R. Miller.
