CASSELMAN | A new memorial is being proposed to honour Canadian soldiers, both fallen in Afghanistan and returned from that mission. Lise Charron is the founder of Ride in Red, which she started about three years ago. The organization raises money through sales at rideinred.com, which then goes towards supporting Canadian military and their families. She was raised in Hearst, On- tario and when soldier Jack Bouthillier of that community was killed she realized that the war in Afghanistan touched real Canadian families. Since then she has travelled all across Canada and organized three Ride in Red tours. Charron was in Casselman at the Golden Helmets precision motorcycle parade on September 29 and had just received the mock up of a new memorial which she plans to have installed in about 60 Canadian communities, all of which were home to a fallen soldier. She said, “The mom of one of the fall- en soldiers told me, ‘You are helping us through our grief.’” At just 9 p.m. on September 27 she had started a facebook group, and by 11:30 p.m. she had over 480 members supporting the memorial.
