EMBRUN - At the committee of the whole meeting of Russell Township Coun- cil on October 1 the first draft of the 2013 budget was presented with a projected 5% tax increase. This is the first time councilors have seen the entire budget. A few questions were asked and a few minor changes were sug- gested by councilors. Councilor Jamie Lau-
rin suggested that there be “no surprises” in April in the form of expenses not accurately predicted. The MPAC assessments are not yet in, so final numbers may change, depending on what mill rate is set. Township staff who pre- pared the budget showed a predicted defi- cit at the end of the 2013 of approximately $32 million.
Serious vision problems are often not detected in standard school vision screenings. Grades suffer as a result—and so do children who wonder why they can’t keep up. Optometrists strongly recommend infants have their first eye examination between 6 and 9 months, pre-school children have an exam before starting school, and children from 6 to 19 are examined annually. Be sure your children can see their way to success in school. Have them visit your optometrist—regularly. Brigitte F ilion OD 2-685 Notre Dame | Embrun, ON | K0A 1W1 | 613.443.1113 Look.See.Learn.
