Educating our patients regarding the disease process/healing time, and  physical changes that occur with injury (pain, stiffness, weakness etc), allows our patients to develop realistic expectations of the recovery process. If we neglect the psychosocial aspect of physical disability, we are doing a disservice to our patients by not addressing all the factors that influence a patient’s ability to reach their goals.
