Westmoreland Club FFWS Trip to Martha’s Vineyard October 2-6, 2024 Attendees: Peter Butera, Paul Lumia, Jim Shoemaker, Bill Spencer, Mike Weaver, and Jeff Wertz. For our 2024 trip, we rented a charming home from Hal Flack on the serene island of Chappaquiddick. Each day, we took the ferry—famously featured in the movie Jaws—from our rental to Martha’s Vineyard to meet our guides and embark on three days of fly fishing. We had the pleasure of fishing with three different guides, each with a unique boat. Two of us fished per boat, switching both boats and guides each day. Our catches included striped bass, false albacore, and bonito. The weather was ideal, and our rental home offered both comfort and character. Every meal, whether prepared at home or enjoyed at local restaurants, was a treat. Chef Spencer outdid himself with a delicious spaghetti and meatballs dinner one evening. Though the fishing was a bit slow, the breathtaking scenery on the water made up for it. Above all, the camaraderie among the six of us made this trip truly unforgettable. -Peter Butera, Fly Fishing & Wing Shooting Club Chair
