Let the Celebration Begin! An event to celebrate Canada becoming a nation is coming to Strathroy this year, thanks to a group of businesspeople who want to make a difference. The event is set for June 29, 2025, from 6 pm to 10 pm, at Gemini Sportsplex and will include live entertainment, a night market, barbecue hot dogs, and a drone and fireworks show that promises to be spectacular. Strathroy Canada Day Celebration Committee Inc., a new lo- cal non-profit organization that includes directors Daniel Kiek - ens, Matthew Laberge, Chris Das, and Dennis Duijsters, has organized Strathroy’s latest community event, along with many others from the community. The decision to hold the event on June 29, instead of July 1, was one of economics explains Daniel. “July 1 is the prime day for companies selling fireworks, and the cost doubles.” Besides the extravaganza of sights and sounds planned for the community, the group will be fundraising to support food programs and children in need within the schools of Strath- roy-Caradoc. Strathroy Canada Day Celebration Committee Inc. are grateful for the sponsors on board, including the presenting sponsor, Ricco Foods and other major contributors, Firefield Garden Centre and Gray Ridge/Mainstreet. “It’s more important than ever that our communities work hard to collaborate, show pride in our country and town, and support one another. We’re confident it will be a great show for all,” adds Dan.
Council Greenlights Next Steps for 2025 Sidewalk Program Recommendations Submitted by the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc
Council received a report for the 2025 Sidewalk Program Recom- mendations recently. The 2025 sidewalk program is part of a multi- year strategy to build walkable and connected communities. The proposed sidewalk locations take public input into account and have been selected to enhance walkable safety in communities, convert existing sidewalks to meet Accessibility for Ontarians with
Disabilities Act (AODA) standards, fill present gaps in the side - walk network, and provide adequate room for winter mainte- nance equipment. The implementation of new sidewalks is part of a complete street approach that aims to reduce car dependency and make neighbourhood streets welcoming, equitable, safe and acces- sible for community members of all ages, abilities and means. Areas of focus in 2025 will be new sidewalks along Thorn Drive and English Street in Strathroy as well as sidewalk replace- ments in Mount Brydges. Council is proceeding with the next step, which is tendering the project.
