JPS Graduation Program 2025

Edison Twp Maintenance & Custodians Organization Adeline Bodnar Award is given to two individuals who exemplify Adeline Bodnar’s character and selflessness who are planning a career in the service industry. Fred J. Riccio Principal’s Award is awarded to an individual who exemplifies the six pillars of character. George Tyber Memorial Scholarship was established to honor a former history teacher and is presented to a graduate who demonstrates academic achievement in history and athletics. Gerald I. Bell Memorial Scholarship: Gerald I. Bell was one of the first guidance counselors at J.P. Stevens. This award is granted to a well-rounded student who has been successful in a range of academic as well as co-curricular areas. This award is sponsored by his daughter Pamela J. Kammer and his granddaughter Naomi Kammer who are both alumnae of JPS and Naomi is also an employee of the Edison Township Public Schools. Geralyn Lennon Memorial Award is given is memory by Mrs. Taryn Mateyka, her daughter. It is given to a person who has made the most out of their time in the JPS Theater Program Hautz/Caliendo Memorial Scholarship is in honor of Harry Hautz, for his background in construction, and Theodore Caliendo, for his many active years of service and volunteering. This award is presented to a “techie” in the JPS Theatre. James & Louise Cassidy Memorial Award is awarded annually to a student whose academic performance is most improved during the high school years. It is given by their son James J. who was a graduate from JPS in 1977. Janet Baio Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given by the Pines Manor in memory of Janet’s years of service in the Community as well as being their Business Development Manager. She had more than 30 years of successful experience in the hospitality industry. Jeffrey P. Tierney Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given in loving memory by the family of Jeffrey P. Tierney a highly respected police officer & Detective Sergeant he served and protected his hometown with pride and honor for over two decades. To anyone who knew Jeff, he was the epitome of strong character and strength, someone who would continually go above and beyond for anyone in need, and expect nothing in return. He has always been a source of hope and inspiration to everyone he encountered in his life. He would be so honored to know he was helping two young individuals as they begin the next step of their educational journey. This award is given to one graduating student athlete of the JPS wrestling team and one of the JPS softball team, who is of strong character and strength with a passion for helping others. Joanna Chmiel Memorial Scholarship A student who is a gifted artist and is also excels in science. This scholarship is in honor of our friend, daughter, and sister Joanna Marie Chmiel. She was an alumna of John P. Stevens High School, class of 2012. During her time at JP Stevens, Joanna excelled in the visual arts and the sciences, planning on a pre-med track for college. We would like to honor her memory and legacy by gifting this scholarship to a capable student who has recommendations from faculty in both visual arts and science departments. John McGowan Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to an individual who developed JP Stevens into the forward moving high school it is today. A former Guidance Director, he gave his “all” in everything he did. As a result, the football stadium is named in his honor as the Middlesex County Continuing Education Program sponsored by the county. John F. Spiess Memorial Award was established in honor of a long time employee of the Edison Department of Recreation and former varsity coach of John P. Stevens Girls’ basketball team. His award is giving to individuals who have made a significant contribution to school athletics. Jordan Bennet Lerch Creative Writing & Science Memorial Award is given annually by his family. Jordan Lerch graduated in 1996 and was attending college when he passed away. His love for writing and science has perpetuated this award. Joseph Wions Memorial Scholarship was created in his honor by his family to pay forward the kindness that the JPS Choir community showed during Joe’s illness with ALS. Keith Ayers Award for Courage is given annually by his friends and family to a student who exemplifies enthusiasm, energy and passion for life. Keith graduated from JP Stevens in 1998 and has faced adversity and overcame it.
