Recirculation Recirculation systems involve water being constantly filtered, disinfected, and reused on the splash pad. In this closed-loop system, an underground holding tank is filled at the time of installation. This type of splash pad water system reduces wasted water but requires significant up-front cost and more frequent maintenance. Recirculation systems can be more beneficial than the other two system types if there is a drought, since water is not regularly pumped to the pad from the water main.

Retain and Reuse A retain and reuse system is a combination of the other two system types. Fresh water is pumped directly to the splash pad, and the water drains into a holding tank in the ground. Instead of the water being treated, it is held to be reused for other reasons, such as irrigation or landscaping. This type of system reduces wasted water by reusing it for another purpose but may only be helpful if there are areas very nearby that
