Repaving of Osgood Canal Greenway (Multi-Year) ………………….……………………… $10,000 Repaving project for the Osgood Canal Urban Trail & Greenway, originally installed in 2010/2011. Over the years, the Osgood Canal Urban Trail & Greenway has served as a beloved pathway for residents and visitors, offering a scenic route for walking, jogging, and cycling. However, as with any well-loved infrastructure, wear and tear have become evident, prompting the need for maintenance and improvements. The repaving project, completed in phases, will address various safety concerns to ensure that the walking trail remains free of any trip hazards, cracks, roots, or other potential safety hazards. By resurfacing the trail, we aim to enhance the overall experience for users Capital Improvement Plan Town of Burgaw Page | 15 while prioritizing their safety and well-being. This initiative aligns with our commitment to providing accessible and well-maintained outdoor spaces that promote active lifestyles and community engagement. The repaved Osgood Canal Urban Trail & Greenway will continue to serve as a vital asset for recreation, transportation, and leisure, enriching the quality of life for residents of Burgaw and beyond. Resurface Tennis Courts…………………………………………………………………………$40,000 Resurfacing of the tennis courts at the W. Ross Harrell Memorial Park will ensure they meet the national standards for safety and athletic performance set by the United States Tennis Association. Resurfacing is recommended every 4-8 years to maintain the quality and integrity of the courts. Currently, the tennis courts are showing signs of wear and tear, including stress cracks and small holes, indicating the need for refurbishment. By investing in the resurfacing of the tennis courts, Burgaw aims to prolong the lifespan of this recreational facility, providing residents with a safe and enjoyable environment for playing tennis. This project aligns with the town's commitment to maintaining high-quality recreational amenities and promoting an active and healthy lifestyle within the community. Shade Structures at W. Ross Harrell Memorial Park……………………………...$8,000 Proposal to install two cantilever umbrella shade structures at W. Ross Harrell Memorial Park. These shade structures are designed to provide much-needed protection from the sun in areas with high exposure. The installation of shade structures aligns with recommendations from the National Recreation and Park Association, which emphasizes the importance of providing shade to protect park visitors from harmful UV rays. Exposure to prolonged sunlight can lead to heat-related illnesses and increase the risk of skin cancer. By installing shade structures, Burgaw aims to create a safer and more comfortable environment for park users, encouraging them to spend more time outdoors while minimizing the potential health risks associated with sun exposure. Furthermore, shade structures promote inclusivity and accessibility by ensuring that all members of the community, regardless of age or sensitivity to sunlight, can enjoy the park's amenities. Overall, this project reflects Burgaw's commitment to promoting health, wellness, and community engagement through the enhancement of its public spaces.
