FINDING PEACE IN THE CHANGING SEASONS SCRIPTURE: ECCLESIASTES 3:1–8
The Reality of Change Look at the vibrant leaf in the image before us. It is caught mid-transition, shifting from the deep greens of summer into the rich oranges and reds of autumn. Right beside it are the famous words of wisdom from Ecclesiastes 3:1: "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." We live in a culture that loves predictability. We want perpetual summers of fruitfulness, constant springs of new beginnings, and unbroken seasons of comfort. But life doesn’t work that way. Change is inevitable. We experience seasons of joy and seasons of grief, seasons of building up and seasons of breaking down. Fighting the Season vs. Trusting the Sovereign Our greatest anxieties usually come when we try to force a summer experience into a winter reality. We try to hold onto things, relationships, or chapters of our lives that God is gently transitioning away. Notice the scripture says there is a time for every matter under heaven. This means your current season—no matter how painful, confusing, or exhausting it might feel—is not an accident. God is not caught off guard by the transitions in your life. He is sovereign over the calendar of your soul. If you are in a season of waiting, there is a purpose in the pause. If you are in a season of pruning, there is a purpose in the preparation. The Beauty of Letting Go Look again at that autumn leaf. In nature, a tree must drop its leaves in the fall to survive the cold of winter and blossom again in the spring. If the leaf refused to let go, it would freeze and damage the branch. Sometimes, the transition you are fighting is actually God trying to protect you. Letting go of a past season doesn’t mean God has forgotten you; it means He is clearing the way for what is next. The colors of autumn remind us that there is a unique, breathtaking beauty in transition—if we are willing to trust the Master Artist. Resting in God’s Timing You do not need to figure out the whole future today. You just need to be faithful in the season you are in right now. Stop fighting the clock and stop rushing the process. Rest in the truth that the God who controls the stars and guides the rotation of the earth is holding your timeline in His hands. The Bottom Line: You can embrace change when you know the God who never changes. Trust His timing, honor the current season, and watch Him bring beauty from the transition.
