MISCELLANEA (Continued from Page 22) "Made Flesh" “ The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). He was not flesh when the first ray of light shone, when the first bird sang, . . . when the first fire burned, when the first river flowed, when the first rose opened wide its rubied heart, when the first wind blew, when the first lily bared its white bosom—“ for by him were all things created.” . . . But “ he was made flesh”—and every nerve was divine handwriting, every muscle was a pulley divinely swung. Robert G. Lee Communion with God is the right arm of our strength; if this be broken we are as weak as water. The Truth Slipped Out A small boy was on the witness stand in an important lawsuit. The prosecuting attorney cross-examined him, then delivered, he thought, a crushing blow to the testimony. “Your father has been telling you how to testify, hasn’t he?” “ Yes.” The lad did not hesitate to reply. “ Now,” said the lawyer triumphant ly, “ just tell us how your father told you to testify.” “Well,” the boy said modestly, “ Father told me the lawyers would try to tangle me in my testimony, but if I would just be careful to tell the truth, I could repeat the same thing every time.” —The Christian Digest When we laymen back our funda mental preachers with personal work and testimony, America will find God. R. G. LeTourneau The Difference God’s child or not—it is the same; Upon each one some trials must fall. The difference: Who trust His name, Are by these things not harmed at all. Waiting Infinite His wisdom, Infinite His grace, Infinite His longing To see His dear bride’s face. “Why then dost Thou tarry?” Foolishly we pray. O Bride, look up and trust Him— He will not delay. The Bridegroom only waiteth Till the wedding day! —;Martha SneU Nicholson .

to answer, and the family heard his happy shout, “ Hurrah! Boxes from America!” The children came run ning. “ Open them, Father! Open them!” they shouted, and Reggie ran for the scissors. Soon they were delv ing into the big boxes, shrieking for joy as they came upon parcels marked with their names. There were a beau tifully-wrapped square package for mother, a strange oblong one for father, and funny-shaped ones for the smaller children. But wasn’t thqyp a single gift for Reggie? His mother felt as if she could not bear another disappointment for her boy. Father began to gather up the Christmas ribbons and papers. But as he carried the empty boxes to the cellar, one seemed surprisingly heavy. So he set it down and felt inside once more—just to make sure—and there, under a false bottom not discovered before, he lifted out a long package marked, “ For Reggie.” Reggie sat holding the box. The children crowded around him: “What is it, Reg? Why don’t you open it?” With trembling hands, he tore off the pretty Christmas paper and lifted back the tissue—and, yes—there it was: a shining electric train with tunnels, tracks, signals, transformer, and all! He couldn’t say a word. He just looked at mother, and tears filled the eyes of both. They knew whom to thank for that wonderful gift. His mother murmured a prayer: “God, please give me the faith of a little child,” The One who long ago gave us the best Christmas Gift of all knew the heart of a little boy in far-oif China. The relatives in America who sent the gift didn’t know of Reggie’s prayer, but God knew, and He answered the prayer of a little boy at Christmas time. Again the happy season of Christ mas is here and the Heavenly Father is longing for every boy and girl to receive a Gift—His Gift—one that is better far than any electric train or the most beautiful o f earth’s gifts. His Gift is His own dear Son, the Lord Jesus. “ For unto you is born . . . a Saviour,” the angel said on that first glad Christmas morning. Receive God’s Gift today, boys and girls, and from your heart declare, “ Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” Then you will know real joy and this will be for you your happiest Christmas.
