King's Business - 1950-12

Then, too, growth in the natural world illustrates the progress of growth in the spiritual realm. As in the former it is from “ the blade to the full corn” so in the latter realm it is “ from glory to glory” (2 Cor. 3:18) or from spiritual infancy to full grown maturity as the child of God assimilates more and more of the truth o f God and follows therein (v. 28). When at last God sees that the harvest is ready He will take it home to Himself (v. 29). The Parable of the Mustard Seed vv. 30-34 In this much misunderstood parable, the Lord gives a picture of the develop ment o f all Christendom containing the false as well as the true. Christendom truly had very humble beginnings but in its progress it has spread around the world. It is to be noticed that the mus tard plant became so big that “ the fowls of the air” could lodge in its branches. It is clear from other passages that the fowls of the air are representatives of Satan and his emissaries (Matt. 13:19; Mark 4:15; Luke 8:12). Thus until the time of harvest we may look for the work o f the Evil One within the pro fessing church. Helps lor the Children Jesus Teaches Through Stories Mark 4:1-32 Memory Verse: (Jesus) “ said unto them, Take heed what ye hear” (Mark 4:24). So great were the crowds of people listening to the Son of God one day that He sat in a small boat in the sea and taught. Many were the stories that He told them to help them to understand God’s love of them and His care for them. He told of a man who went out to sow his field. Some of the seed fell on the pathway and the birds quickly ate it. Some of the seed fell on the stony ground and was scorched by the sun. The rest of the seed fell- upon good ground and brought forth a good crop. The Saviour likened the story to His hearers. Those who heard the Word and did nothing about it were like the seed that fell by the wayside. Those who received the Word gladly, then gave it up when criti cism or persecution came into their lives, were like the seed that fell upon the stony ground. The hearers who gladly believed Jesus’ message and faithfully lived for Him were likened to the seed that fell upon good ground. Perhaps many of the people could not have under stood a great sermon but all could un derstand this simple message from the loving lips of God’s Son. With several other stories that you will read in the Scripture lesson for today the Son of God made simple and clear His messages about His Father in Heaven. God’s message of love is simple that all might be able to understand His way of salvation. Have you received this sim ple, precious message as your own? If so, have you simply explained to others how they too might know your wonder ful Lord? T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S
