Packaging Innovation

Bioplastics – Supply Chain Analysis CDIC completed a study, in collaboration with Leprino and RTI International to identify potential partners to follow up on the UC-Davis funded project on bioplastics from whey (permeate and delactosed whey permeate). The project was designed to map the supply chain, in particular those companies utilizing raw biopolymers for the production of pellets and the

final manufacturing of compostable bioplastics. The project included interviews with 5 California-based players. Findings were presented to industry, as well as UC-Davis researchers for future implementation and scaling-up. Supporting Compostable Yogurt Cups – RCM Incubator Program CDIC staff initiated work with a California processor and their team, participants of the RCM Incubator 2025 cohort. The technical assistance project centers around the feasibility and testing of a new type of compostable single serve yogurt cup manufactured by D-Pack, Canada. The type of packaging is not currently available in the US and would be highly innovative.
