ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 2026-2027 MARKET-READY MANURE- DERIVED SOIL AMENDMENT RESEARCHER: Dr. Pramod Pandey, UC Davis 2026 Project Budget: $57,612
This project intends to develop a safe, consumer- ready product from dairy manure using alkaline wet (AW) technology by transforming raw manure into a nutrient-rich, pathogen-free lignocellulosic material. By optimizing processing conditions and validating field-scale feasibility, this project aims to advance sustainable nutrient management while creating valuable, marketable products for small- and mid-sized dairies. PROJECT GOALS: • Support reduced dependence on synthetic fertilizers and promotes soil health through improved lignocellulosic content. • Generate value-added, storable products that open premium markets, enable nutrient credit trading, and create new revenue streams for producers. • Lower manure-derived GHG emissions, odor, nutrient runoff, and transportation impacts. • Support FSMA-compliant use in high-value crops and aligns with state and federal nutrient management goals. • Enhance public perception of California dairy innovation, sustainability, and responsible waste management.
