Flex Program
Our Flex program continues to provide options for processors in need of temporary out of state supply when supply in California are limited.
Ramar, an ice cream processor based in Richmond, CA reached out to CMAB for flexibility in bringing in whey powder. The ingredients (cream, non fat milk powder and whey powder) are being shorted by Advanced Milk Commodities who buy from Lactalis and Kraft. The total usage amount from California is 215k lbs into this facility. We have allowed them to source temporary out of state supply for the next 2months, after which they will then switch back to CA supply when available. This impact is minimal from a formulation standpoint as these ingredients only amount to 4% of the total product. Far West Distributors also reached out to CMAB to request flexibility in sweet whey powder supply. This ingredient is purchased from Lactalis Heritage Dairy in Tulare, CA. The brand name of the product is Krafen which is a Grade A whey. This product has been significantly stunted due to various manufacturing issues and constraints from cheese production. The facility in Tulare over the last several months has been running at 20-30% production, therefore Far West has asked to temporarily source whey from the pacific northwest to augment the supply to take care of their customers.
