From the Classroom to the Courtroom Abraham Meir’s Journey to Personal Injury Law

We all know the after-lunch slump leaves us counting the minutes to our next nap. But research shows that sleeping or lying down after eating isn’t the best for health (no matter how good it feels). When you do this, you’re not allowing your body the time it needs to digest your food properly, and you may experience various digestive issues, such as acid reflux and heartburn. So, is walking the best activity to do after eating? The answer is yes! Walking is a light movement that can help your food move through your stomach and intestines, making digestion smoother. Not only can walking help improve your digestion after eating, but this simple exercise can also bring many other benefits: Walk Your Way to Better Digestion

Abraham Meir didn’t always know he wanted to be a personal injury attorney, but he understood he wanted to help people. His immigrant parents instilled in him the importance of community early, and he wanted to dedicate himself to making others’ lives better. So, he embarked on his first career as a science teacher. However, Abraham says being an attorney “was always in the back of my head. Fighting

for what’s right is second nature to me.” So, he began attending a four-year law school program in the evenings while teaching full-time. He originally intended to go into estate planning, as it seemed like a surefire way to help people, but after securing a position at a no-fault firm, his perspective changed. “It was a natural progression into personal injury,” Abraham says. He was a volunteer EMT at the time and had seen up close the devastating injuries people can incur during an accident. Conflicts of interest meant he could not be both an EMT and a personal injury attorney, but his legal work allowed him to help the same type of accident victims in the aftermath of an emergency. “I love speaking with my clients and determining how I can help them,” Abraham says. He reports the environment at Cellino Law, which he joined a little under two years ago, is conducive to helping people get the best results. “It’s a great atmosphere here,” he says. “Everyone is great to work with and helps each other out. We all share the same goal of helping the clients as best as we can.” Outside work, he remains very involved with his community, particularly his children’s schools. He and his wife share four kids aged 8–17. “I spend a lot of time ferrying my kids back and forth between basketball and hockey games,” he says. He also stays busy with building projects in his free time. “The Home Depot is my favorite store. If my wife wants something made, I make it!” he laughs. “My clients are what keep me going,” Abraham says. “It’s always nice to help them recover from their accidents, whether sending them to the right doctor or getting them that check from their case. Money can’t buy happiness,” he concludes, “but it certainly helps.”

THE POST-MEAL WALK: WHEN AND HOW LONG IS BEST? You gain the most digestive benefits if you walk right after eating. Waiting too long afterward may only minimally aid your digestive process. Be sure to get moving as soon after your meal as possible! As for frequency, ideally, you should go for a stroll after every meal. However, to get started, try going for a walk after dinner. You can increase your number of walks as you get accustomed to the exercise. Ten minutes is all you need to reap the benefits of walking after eating. While you can walk longer if you’d like, 10 minutes is doable even with a busy schedule. Plus, if you walk for 10 minutes after every meal, that’s 30 minutes of exercise daily! Take your dog with you or stroll with your headphones, listening to your favorite podcast. How you walk is up to you, but no matter what, you’re doing your mind and body a huge favor!
