life so well and it was wonderful to see them becoming engaged in our House activities so positively from the start. INTERHOUSE EVENTS Athletics The first honours of Term 1 came in fantastic performances at the interhouse athletics and a gutsy performance in the swimming sports. Although the boarding Houses are not usually considered the strongest at swimming, our tactic to “flood the market” by having the most boys try out for each event, paid dividends. In doing so, we were able to secure several 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes, ensuring that we were serious event contenders through the accumulation of points. Flower’s boys also raised the bar in athletics this year, with a record number of our boys trying out in the heats, backed by their mates. Our championship athletes delivered outstanding results at the Interhouse Athletics Championships where Flower’s finished overall runner-up to one of the larger dayboy houses with 542 points (43 behind the overall winner). We were very proud of every boy who turned out, as each boy's efforts contributed to a big overall House performance These were the boys who finished in the top three placings per event. We started with a busy first term, where – because of restrictions and rules regarding the management of Covid-19 – plans had to be changed almost on a daily basis. We welcomed our new boys into Flower’s House and, even on the day of their arrival, the rules changed twice. Initially, parents were to drop their sons at the gate and wish them well before heading off. However, fortunately, through some careful planning, we were able to devise a system that allowed parents to come in, help their sons settle, and safely distance themselves from others. These fine young men were able to settle into both House and College
