PASTORAL CARE Richards House

The arrival of the new students was a different experience from what we, as a House, were accustomed to. Covid-19 protocols would haunt us for a good part of the first half of the year. I am grateful that the boys showed such grace in what could have been a taxing time. For the House, 2022 turned out to be very interesting for the boys. With an influx of 17 new boys from Years 9–12, and an air of brotherhood, the House has been a very positive place.

of athletics. Scott Gregan, Oliver Blackburn and William Simpson worked hard to make 2022 even more successful than last year. With the added complexities of Covid-19 and the format change, the boys threw their efforts into qualification for the competitive finals, an area in which Richards had not fared too well in the past. However, the list below indicated the team and individual effort the boys put in. Well done to all, as the heats were flooded with Richards boys. Housemaster: Kevin Harris Deputy Housemaster/Mentor: Zac Knight Mentors: Lesley Anderson- McKenna, Emma Bradley-Hudson, Scott Franklin, David Newton Day Matron and Assistant to the Housemaster: Stacey James Resident Tutors: Kevin Guttmann, Nick Thatcher Head of House: Scott Gregan Deputy Heads of House: Oliver Blackburn, William Simpson In 2022, Richards House has gone through somewhat of an evolution. With the retirement of Matron Jan Kelleher at the start of the year, we hoped to have this resolved and a new person in place for the start of Term 2. With the boys' best interests at heart, this process was of utmost importance. In the interim, Giselle Pasten, our non-residential tutor, worked tirelessly to provide the boys with the necessary support. Andy Black departed at the end of last year, and Nick Thatcher took up his position. Nick has proved to be a massive asset to the House and has quickly become at home in Richards, with the boys respecting him and gaining his respect. I am sure all the parents who have met Nick throughout the year have seen his humble nature.

MOTHER'S DAY AFTERNOON TEA Friday 6 May

Although at short notice, it was great to see several mothers join the boys for their afternoon tea. It is a special occasion that highlighted how much our mothers do for us and how much we have to be thankful to them. Our Head of House, Scott Gregan, and his mother, Cara, played a special role in greeting the mothers and organising the gratitude roses for the boys to give to their mums. It was an afternoon filled with warmth and smiles and an excellent way for the House to reopen to parents after Covid-19.
