CULTURE Senior Production – Light at the End of the Tunnel

Christ’s College and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School Senior Drama Production After being a little concerned that Covid-19 might rule supreme again this year and put a stop to a big- scale senior production, we were all thrilled that we got to produce a huge show involving record numbers of students. The original plan had been to stage the musical Starlight Express , but we quickly realised that the pandemic was still causing issues, so we were forced to change to a new plan which would allow for more flexibility. When we announced the change to a more cabaret review-style show, students from both Rangi Ruru and College stepped up with ideas of songs, dances and sections from musical theatre shows that they would like to perform. From their suggestions, we put together a list of solo pieces, duets and group numbers from a wide range of productions, including Hamilton , Mamma Mia! , Les Misérables , Legally Blonde , Grease , Into the Woods , Hairspray , Sweeney Todd and Starlight Express . The staff team was impressed with the resilience of the students. After many ups and downs, we wanted to give the students the chance to see something big through to the end. They rose to the challenge and demonstrated grit, determination and huge talent. Light at the End of the Tunnel became a wonderfully entertaining two-hour journey through fabulous
