at Medbury School, for her 25-plus years of superbly preparing her choristers to an incredibly high level of musicianship and allowing us as a College to see many carry on their music-making as members of the Chapel Choir. It was wonderful that earlier in the year, Medbury Old Boys Ollie Jones and James Griffin fronted an evening with the Choir to show their heartfelt admiration and thanks to Chrissie Badger for all she had done for Medbury boys over the generations. Following a week of heavy rain and cold winds, it was great to have a fine evening on 1 December to again enjoy the traditional Carols on the Quad. Unfortunately, Rev’d Pickering was unable to join us for the occasion because of illness, but our Warden,

The Right Rev’d Dr Peter Carrell, filled in and kept the service moving through the various prayers, readings and carols. It was a pleasure to have the brass from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra led by our brass tutor, Thomas Eves, to accompany the difficult and demanding opening Hodie by American composer Z Randall Stroope. James Griffin and Andrew Welsh’s percussion parts also added to the occasion. Credit must go to the professional vocal solos throughout the evening from Marcello Ferguson, Ollie Jones, Tom Whitteker, Oscar Gosling and Oscar Stove. James Griffin, as Head of Choir, created a wonderfully supportive environment, along with Ryan Primus, Hugo Wynn Thomas and Robbie McClean as his deputies and

Crucifer to lead, cajole and mould a dedicated and committed group of singers, who, despite the limitations of the year, managed to always perform with great commitment. Special mention also needs to be given to the members who willingly committed to the Combined Choir with St Margaret’s College and to Ollie Jones who took responsibility in leading this group. We wish Ollie and Hugo Wynn Thomas all the very best as they take up choral scholarships with Trinity College in Melbourne within their Chapel and residential programme at the University of Melbourne.
