INTERMEDIATE WHITE BASKETBALL Manager: Katie Southworth Coach: Canterbury Rams Team: Albie Anderson, Marten Brooks, Oscar Chen, Jack Hansen- Ratter, Basti Julian, Robert Kidd, Harry Lee, Harry Smith, Ethan Yao, David Zhou It was a mixed 2022 season for the Intermediate White team. Like so many others, the team faced ongoing sickness during winter, often leaving us struggling to field a team and find substitutes. Other schools had a few default games. When we had the numbers, the boys played well and were able to create scoring opportunities but not always execute the final play. The boys had strong wins against Burnside High School and Hagley College, and very close games with Rangiora High School, 40–40, and St Andrew’s College, narrowly losing 35–37 in the last minutes. Throughout the season, Harry Smith stood out in terms of attendance, effort, skills, and all-round sportmanship. Harry was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award. Likewise, Robert Kidd and Oscar Chen should also be noted for their attendance and quiet but consistently solid contributions week after week. Oscar was recognised as the Most Valuable Team Member. David Zhou and Albie Anderson continued to develop their awareness of those nearby and where their teammates were in order to make the most of any opportunites. Both Marten Brooks and Ethan Yao grew in confidence as the weeks progressed, which was evident by the improving skills, especially within the defence area. Marten, a very encouraging sportsman, demonstrated great character, while Basti Julian and Jack Hansen-Ratter – both highly athletic and skilled – were high point scorers when available to play. Basti was managing a back injury and Jack was navigating his commitments as a high- ranking tennis player. Overrall, it was a successful season for the boys. Katie Southworth Manager

forget Dan Flutey, who played an excellent “sixth man” off the bench a few times during the season. His defining moment was a successful three pointer in our final game, when not only his teammates literally all jumped on him but also all of the opposition as well. Luckily, he suffered no injuries. It was a real pleasure to manage these boys this season as they always turned up to games, organised the running of the subs, organised transport and ran the duty desk when required without even needing to be asked. ensured the ball moved quickly from one end of the court to the other. The dedication to the game strategy of only shooting three pointers was well-embraced by Paddy Cochran, whose percentage of successful shots could never be published. Tom Hodges, on the other hand, showed great improvement on his success rate as we moved through the season. And we could not
