YEAR 9 WHITE BASKETBALL Manager: Elaine Tang, Rahal Pathirana Coach: Canterbury Rams Team: Otto Church, Max Durkin, Charlie Frost, Tom Gardiner, Jamie Maling, Nick McQuilkin, Nisal Pathirana, Ericsson Ye It was a great season for the Year 9 White basketball team, with successes and learning experiences amid some challenging games. We were fortunate to have Rahal Pathirana working alongside the boys as their coach during games. He brought his skill and positive attitude, making a big difference to the group.
The first game was a resounding win, 41–12, against the College Year 9 Grey team. Otto Church scored almost half the team points and there was a great energy from both teams. Next, was another strong win, 51–15, against Te Aratai College. Tom Gardiner and, once again, Otto Church proved themselves as top scorers, and the team overall gelled well to work positively together, supporting each other and passing skilfully. In Week 6, the College team secured yet another win at an away game, this time against Lincoln High School. The boys were dominant from the start and celebrated a 42–10 win. In Week 7, St Thomas of Canterbury College continued its unbroken
winning streak with a 31–11 win against the College team. The boys put in a good effort, but struggled to score the points. There were plenty of missed hoops under the pressure of a strong defence from St Thomas. Term 3 started with another loss, this time against Rangiora High School. This was a tough game but the boys enjoyed the challenge and did their best. Tom Gardiner, Nick McQuilkin, and Nisal Pathirana scored our precious points in this 33–18 loss. In Week 2, the boys played Te Aratai College again. The team started strong and never let go of the lead to secure a 37–17 win. Some great points were scored by Otto Church, Nisal Pathirana, and Jamie Maling.
