vs The Willows Cricket Club XI The Willows 255/7 (Lewis 2/14, Hocquard 1/20, Braithwaite 1/27) beat College 198ao (Lewis 90, Sharr 32, Seeto 23) by 57 runs Playing the match before Christmas for the first time, College played well in patches when fielding, without really exerting much pressure on the opposition. When batting, other than Matt Lewis’ remarkable innings of 90 off 77 balls, we were not able to kick on when required and buckled finally under the rising required run rate. vs Wellington College Wellington College 338/6 dec (Shore 2/36, Braithwaite 2/37) and 124/8 dec (Breitmeyer 3/17, Harrison 3/25) drew with College 195/5dec (Lewis 83) and 184/9 (Breitmeyer 56, Gibb 42) by 5 wickets We played Wellington in a two-day game for the first time in many years and acquitted ourselves well on an idiosyncratic pitch. A couple of dropped chances allowed Wellington College to get away in the 1st innings, and rain then intervened, meaning a contrived chase was worked out. In the end, it was a little too much for us and we ended up securing the draw with the final pair at the crease. vs Scots College Scots College 207/5 (McClean 3/33) lost to College 208/4 (Sharr 50, Shore 45, Seeto 36) by 6 wickets A comfortable win was achieved through a great team performance. Rob McClean bowled well and was well supported by terrific fielding. The chase was straightforward with the win coming in 36 overs, with Harry Sharr scoring his maiden 50. vs Hutt International Boys’ School College 142/9 (Gibb 30, Hocquard 26) lost to Hutt International 143/2 (Braithwaite 1/8, Breitmeyer 1/14) by 8 wickets College struggled to impose itself in this match with either the bat or ball. We never got going on a decent wicket with the rival bowlers bowling tight lines and their spinners extracting lots of turn. Bowling proved difficult with

only a small target to defend and with a couple of sharp chances missed, Hutt International won comfortably in the end. vs Christchurch Boys’ High School 2nd XI College 242/6dec (Lewis 64, Cochran 63, Breitmeyer 63) beat CBHS 2nd XI 68ao (Gibb 4/1, Breitmeyer 2/10, Hocquard 2/14) and 137ao (McClean 3/8, Breitmeyer 2/9, Braithwaithe 2/18) by an innings and 37 runs College was excellent in the first competition match. Ed Cochran and Matt Lewis put on 99 runs in quick time to set the scene, then Ben Breitmeyer hit 63 in 43 to set up the target. CBHS was always up against it, with Nick Gibb taking a remarkable four for one run in bowling CBHS out for 68. Following on, Rob McClean bowled well to take three wickets and Tim Seeto took his maiden wicket for the team to wrap up the innings win. vs Timaru Boys’ High School 1st XI Match cancelled because of rain. vs St Andrew’s College 1st XI StAC 199/8dec (Gibb 2/28) and 148/7dec (Falls-Anderson 3/53) lost to College 147/ao and 202/5 (Lewis 54, Gibb 46) by 5 wickets This was a match of contrasting days. The first was tough to bat, slow run rates and solid bowling but rain was the main factor. On Day 2, College pushed the game forward by declaring behind, then attacking the bowling in the final quarter of the match to win comfortably in the end. Quick runs from Lewis, Gibb and Seeto in the 4th innings sealed a really good win. vs Otago Boys’ High School 1st XI College 207/ao (Breitmeyer 59, Ryan 45) and 197ao (Lewis 66, Hocquard 41) beat OBHS 204/9dec (Gibb 3/32) and 158/ao (Gibb 3/53) by 42 runs The first day of this match was tight and with a three-run lead early on Day 2, the pressure was on College to set the tone. Falling to 96 for five, we were in danger, but a great couple of partnerships, anchored by Matt Hocquard, meant we could
