vs Tauraga Boys’ High School – Gillette Cup #5 College remained undefeated, with the highest run rate of the tournament. TBHS needed to beat us by 150 runs to win – almost an impossible task, especially as it was raining. The match was eventually called off and we had won the Gillette Cup. Tim Seeto was awarded the tournament MVP with his 350-plus runs and the team was presented with the Spirit Award, the umpires’ trophy for the team who showed the best cricket values and principles. It well reflected the team attitud of being polite, humble, and respecting the game of cricket and the umpires. Winning this award showed the true character of the team. During the season, the team won every competition available, only being defeated once by a school team in preseason. Becoming national champion was a fine finish to the year, and well-deserved recognition for a fantastic team. Many thanks to coaches Keryn Ambler and Ryan McCone, who have developed the team into a champion side. Thank you to the parent group who have supported their sons throughout. It has been a fantastic year to finish off what has been a remarkable few years of cricket for this group of players.
