term of cricket because of Covid-19 and rain-affected fixtures. Despite the disruption, the boys were able to win games against Rangiora High School 1st XI, Christchurch Boys’ High School Development XI, College Principal’s XI, and St Thomas of Canterbury College 2nd XI. Throughout, the boys played with a lot of enthusiasm and enjoyed their cricket. A century was recorded by Jack Baker-Sherman (who also scored a 50), and two 50s were scored by Paddy Cochran. Benjamin Laing, Tom Hodges, Wills Ockwell, and Henry Thin were the top-performing bowlers. Term 4 started slowly, with a rusty bowling performance resulting in a loss to the CBHS Development XI. The term continued to be up and down. However, the boys always played with a great attitude and team spirit. Towards the end of the term, the team started to hit its stride with two very good wins over Riccarton High School 1st XI and St Andrew’s College 3rd XI. Again, this term the batsmen performed extremely well, with a century to Lucas Minehan and 50s to Paddy Cochran and Tom Hodges. Wills Ockwell, Benjamin Laing, and Tom Hodges were the pick of the bowlers, consistently taking wickets when we needed it. It was a pleasure to be involved with the College 3rd XI this year. with The team gelled quickly and played with plenty of enthusiasm. We would like to thank Stephen Dods for the work and support he gave the cricket club, and also a huge thank you to the parents who came out to the games throughout the season. Last, thank you to Ryan Hughes and Paul McCarthy for all your help at training and on Saturdays. The boys should be proud of the way they performed – both on and off the field. While disappointing not to finish closer to the top, finishing in the top four meant the team qualified for the newly formed 1st XI One-Day Championship grade for the second half of the season. This was a big challenge, but the team was committed to not only holding its own, but also set the target of finishing in the top six. The team had some fantastic early results combined with some tough losses. At the time of writing, the team was tied in 6th position with Timaru Boys’ High School, with the winner of the final game to be promoted to the top grade in 2023.
