pleasure to work with you for the past two years. I know you will remember my motivational quotes fondly, if at all. Awards Best Batsman – Henry Hiatt Best Bowler – Harry Flatman Players’ Player – Alf Markham Best Fielder – Ewan Whiteside Gill Kilpatrick Manager PRINCIPAL’S XI CRICKET Manager: Stephen Dods Coach: Ryan Thomas Team: Jed Gimblett (captain), Felix Bowden, Thomas Douglas, Hugh Duston, Santino Felitti-Duter Callum Fox, Ollie Jones, Jono Murphy, Carlos Parker, Joe Pfahlert, Alex Scott, Ashwin Thomas, Robbie Ward The Principal’s XI is a team that does not concern itself with results too much. After all, we never finished worse than second in any match over the last year. We won a few games along the way, too. The big disappointments were always the days we did not play. Whether it was rain or Covid-19, Saturday mornings were better when there was cricket. What mattered most was the great team culture. From the new recruits through to the veterans, everyone looked forward to playing together. While the veterans tended to lead the scoresheet, they always made sure everyone got their chance to shine – whether it was batting up the order or getting the new ball. The team was led by Jed Gimblett, a hard-hitting batsman and wily swing bowler who hit the biggest six I had seen in a while, down the drive and out onto the road at St Thomas of Canterbury College. Jono Murphy, Alex Scott, and Hugh Duston formed the engine room in the batting, each posting 50s and, in Alex’s case, a maiden century as well. All three were handy with the ball when called on. Whether it was Dusty’s chin music or Jono stepping up to the captaincy late in the year, and Alex was a pretty easy choice for player of the year. Callum Fox and Carlos

Parker came into the side and took on the opening roles. While it took a while for them to find their way, they were top notch by the end of the year. Both posted solid scores and started to hit the ball to the ropes at will by Term 4. Joe Pfahlert is an extraordinary slow bowler, brave enough to bowl with the new ball and often with just one sweeper out. His effort of 10 overs, four maidens, nine runs, and one wicket against Shirley Boys’ High School 2nd XI was mesmerising, and he was always keen to open the batting, blazing 25 in his final match. Robbie Ward, Thomas Douglas, Ashwin Thomas, Ollie Jones, Santino Felitti-Duter and Felix Bowden were utility players, fitting into whatever roles were needed. Robbie batted in the top order, then took on opening the bowling when Ashwin could not, then took over the keeping when Dougy was injured. Ollie Jones was as dangerous as ever with the ball when he returned to the team, and was sorely missed in the first term. Ashwin struck fear in opposition batsmen when he could bowl and, when he could not, he terrorised their bowlers. Felix bowled with a wonderful arm, bagging middle-order wickets when needed. Dougy opened the batting at times, kept for the first term and was our fielder of the year. And we could not forget Tino, who kept us laughing all year. A big thank you for all the support from Stephen Dods and College. An even bigger thank you to the amazing parents who always turned up to watch our games. Ryan Thomas Coach YEAR 9A BLACK CRICKET Managers: Arthur Wood, Andrew Grace

This group of young players came together at the start of the year to launch their College cricket careers and, after two weeks, we finalised our squad. By the end of Term 4, they had gelled into a team of young men who played with pride for College and each other. As coaching staff, we wanted to ensure that the players developed their core skills and that they would be able to reflect on a season in which they had fun and had made new friendships. We believe we achieved these goals. This season, the squad was divided into three pods of four, with each pod being rotated through the opening, middle order and tail every week. At times, this tested the team, but the boys, as per their character and nature, took it on board and made the system work effectively throughout the year. We had a disrupted Term 1 of cricket because of Covid-19 and rain-affected fixtures. However, throughout the year, the boys played with enthusiasm in the field, bowling – on the most – with accuracy and to a plan. They had to adjust to various playing conditions, with fixtures being played on artificial surfaces and turf pitches, and this took some adjustment and application. The team must be commended for the way in which it adapted to the various surfaces. Jackson Grace must be commended for the way in which he led the side all season. We are very proud of the team’s achievements. We thank the players for their very positive and dedicated attitude. They are a great bunch of young men to work with, and must be congratulated for their team spirit, and for the comradery and outstanding sportsmanship they demonstrated. Well done, gentlemen. You are a credit to your parents, College and yourselves. We believe they have developed as players and, most importantly, enjoyed their season. They have created a foundation to build on as they grow through the age groups. We also want to thank Stephen Dods for the work and support he has given the cricket club and thanks must go to the groundsmen for the hard
