T20 CRICKET MAVERICKS Manager: Erin Rutherford Team: George Helmore (captain), Charlie Blackburn, Ash Cassidy, Adam Chamberlain, Will Churcher, Murphy Dargue, Will Judd, Jake Leck, George Mounce, George van Leeuwen The Mavericks launched into the 2022 T20 cricket season with optimism and enthusiasm. Early on, George Helmore opted into the captaincy of the Mavs and ‘steadied the ship’. The team, mainly

consisting of Year 13 students, operated with efficiency and decorum.

An early highlight of the season was the first game, in which the boys were awarded ‘team of the week’ at school assembly. The Mavs were up against the Shirley Boys’ High School Senior T20 team. Up to bat first, the Mavs managed a colossal score of 161/5 (a seemingly impossible target for SBHS to chase down). George Helmore and Murphy Dargue enjoyed strike rates of 169 and 191, respectively, with a star appearance from Hunter Shaw, who revelled in a strike rate of 300. In the second innings, the fielding from the Mavs was just as on-form. SBHS was caught out one after another, with impressive fielding from Hunter Shaw, George Helmore, and an absolute screamer from Ash Cassidy. The bowling from the ‘Georges’ was also on-point, with George Mounce and George van Leeuwen bowling out three of the opposition batsmen with apparent ease. Ultimately, SBHS could not handle the pressure, walking away with a score of 99/7. The 2022 summer season was reduced to six games with Covid-19 interruptions. Despite this, the Mavs team made the most of the season, building on key skills and having fun. The players even taught this newbie cricket manager how to score correctly. Congratulations to the Mavs on another exceptional season. Erin Rutherford Manager
