3RD XI FOOTBALL Manager: Dr Mike Field Coach: Finbar Gallaway Team: Isaac Field (captain), Saleh Ameen, Jonnie Bennetto, Tom Dunlop, Hamish Falls-Anderson, Charlie Harper, Max Howard, George Hudson, Henry King, Elliot Lee, Ben Laing, Jasper Moss, George Mounce, Jacob Onions, James Whitaker, Sean Wu, Hugo Wynn Thomas, Raziel Zhao The 3rd XI began its season with a spirited performance which resulted in a 6–3 loss to a similarly matched Christchurch Boys’ High School team. This game displayed a good

scored four goals the previous week. The boys maintained their winning start to the season with a 3–2 win against Nomads, having lost to that team in the grading games, and a hard-fought 2–0 against Christchurch Boys’ High School, where Nathan Cranstone had his best chance of scoring. This placed College in 1st position going into the game against unbeaten Cashmere Technical. Missing influential midfielder Charlie Eglinton, College took the lead through Jack Barr. The boys were unfortunate to concede a goal with the last kick of the first half. Plenty of chances were created from both sides and with five minutes left, Cashmere Technical found the winner. Before the next match, the versatile Luke Menzies was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. Next up was a match against bottom-of- the-table Christchurch Boys’ High School. The boys never really got going and were frustrated, going down 2–0. Through Covid-19, school holidays, and bad weather, we had a month’s break in the middle of the season and were unfortunate to play top- of-the-table Cashmere Technical in first game back. After going 1–0 up through Mason Ott, College eventually went down 7–3, with Jack Barr and Oliver Corbett also on the scoresheet. The boys were working as hard as ever during training, with a new formation, and a lot of information being thrown at them. A lot of defensive responsibility was put on Nicholas Brown, George Kain, and Adam Chamberlain, and the development shown by all three was obvious to see. Toby Jackson scored a stunning free kick against CBHS, but it was not enough to earn the points as College lost 2–1. College ended the season positively, with a 3–3 draw against Nomads. Mason Ott scored an unbelievable goal after dribbling past four defenders following nice link-up play with James Bernau. The season finished with a 2–0 win against CBHS, with Mason Ott again scoring, before Will Song scored his first goal for College in his final game.

While there were several strong performances, the prizes for the 2nd XI were awarded to Mason Ott (MVP), and our goalie and captain, Joe Pfahlert (Footballers’ Footballer). The top scorer was Jack Barr, with eight goals. Thank you to all involved and a special mention to the Year 13s in the squad – Adam Chamberlain, Charlie Eglinton, Luke Menzies, Mason Ott, William Song and Joe Pfalhert – who played their final games for College.
