for the chance to hold the Maadi Cup. In a typical College start, both crews were slow away. As the field approached the end of the first quarter, both College crews were fighting for honours with five other crews. As the field reached the halfway point, the College A boat was tucked closely behind Hamilton Boys’ High School in 2nd place. However, College was having to work to maintain this position, with both Mount Albert Grammar School and Christchurch Boys’ High School pressing hard with every stroke. With 500m remaining, College’s A crew threw in a flurry of strokes and this change of gear moved the crew ahead of the chasing pack to record a remarkable 2nd place finish. College’s B eight finished a creditable 6th overall. After the regatta, two boys, Charlie Poulter and Fergus Johnston, were offered South Island U18 trials. A huge thanks to the coaches –

Malcolm McIntyre, Tony O’Connor, Andrew Taylor, Jimmy Healey, Will Satch, Liam O’Leary and Nathan Luff – and manager, Chris Sellars, who set out the early blueprint for all the success when they rearranged how the various squads were going to look and train and adjusted everything to meet the ever- changing demands of the Covid-19 environment. A final acknowledgement must go to the parents who have spent countless hours assisting the boat club in many capacities. From raising funds to help with plant and equipment purchases, through to cooking more than 4000 meals for the boys while they are away on the various training camps. Their support and assistance have, in no small way, enabled the Christ’s College Rowing Club to be the club it is today. Thank you.
